[RELz] Mythic Amber Armor

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:52 am

So I always loved the Amber armor from shivering isles. It's weird, buglike and has that uniqueness that armor sets in Morrowind had (which if you know anything about me you know I'm a fan). So I tried to update the textures a bit, as the vanilla versions have begun to show their age, and there were some questionable design decisions (green fabric overload).

I was hoping to texture the weapons as well but I lack the time currently. The high res versions should match the vanilla textures well enough.

Pictures and download at http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37955

Also ... I've been doing this for awhile so this is a preemptive response to a question I'm sure I'll get asked a thousand times. I will not change the shield texture, if you don't like the tapestry on the back .. you'll just have to make due or stick with vanilla textures. Sorry.

Downloaded and everything looked great. I really enjoyed the shield, it added a very nice touch to the detail. Rarely seen in any other texture mods. Thank you for your hard work. Looking forward to the SI creatures :foodndrink:

Very nice, thank you! I'll endorse it as soon as TESNexus lets me do so.
Looks like you took my recommendation on how to color the brown "connective" areas between pieces of Amber.

Now if we can just find someone with the time, energy, and knowledge to color the Amber weapons... :)

The gauntlets are showing up WAY too light (glossy) in my game. For example:

It shows up that way in-game as well as in the menu.
Any idea what might be causing this? The only mods I use which I could imagine might impact this are Get Wet, and Better Creatures (I think that's the name...adds claws to Khajiits and spikes to Argonians)
Further adding to the issue: they're not this shiny all of the time. It seems to come and go (though they are this shiny most of the time).

EDIT: After a little more time examining the issue, it looks like it might have something to do with enchantments. The issue may be linked to the magic enchantment animation that occurs when the gauntlets are added or removed. This is more noticable with one of my mods, BFG's Enchanted Armory Realism (link is signature), which among other things weakens magic enchantments as armor takes damage.

Sorry mate. To be honest I'm not really sure how to begin fixing that problem.

Hmm...
Well, you only changed the normal map and the texture, so it can't be a problem with the mesh (since I've never seen this before). Knowing absolutely nothing about normal maps and textures, could it be something simple like a reflective setting being incorrect, or the normal map being inverted?
It seems strange that only the gauntlets are affected, when in fact all six pieces of armor have the exact same enchantments and so are impacted in the same way by Get Wet etc. There's got to be some setting specific to the gauntlets causing this...

It was the normal map (didn't apply the nvidia filter). Funny no one else has complained yet. I also left two of my photoshop files in the directory (d'oh) which explains the huge file size. Sorry mate. Uploading a fixed version now.

edit: I was going to mention the psd files, but forgot.

Thanks for the quick fix! I'll give it a try tonight when I'm home from work.
Wouldn't have thought of it being the nVidia filter. I knew that nVidia cards sometimes caused problems with hands or gauntlets appearing too pale/glossy but I'd never experienced the problem before.

Since I can cheat and use these newly released textures for the weapons, I'll definitely take a stab at it (ha ha puns) whether or not I have success with the Mithril and Orcish weapons. But I don't want to talk about it any more until I can actually deliver--and I guarantee you I will deliver in one way or another! The http://img816.imageshack.us/img816/884/longpage.jpg is almost finished and the WEPON stuff is at the top of my list of things to do once I launch the site, though I might still work on them before then, we'll see. Shutting up!

Also, I'm curious... Is the name of the individual on the back of the shield "Amber" by any chance? :teehee:

Nvidia has a free plugin for photoshop that creates normal maps, I don't think it has anything to do with their graphic cards.
