For extra credit, for those of you with the collectors edition guide is it any better?

Not really Guides just hamper and spoil things not to mention there overpriced

Normally I would just suggest using online guides like the wiki instead. It's a little slow getting populated with information, though... but I guess that's because everyone's too busy playing (myself included, when I'm not at work ).

no, you can find every thing published in a stratigy guide on this forum, it is kind of convieniant to have a book on hand in which you can place bookmarks at places you check frequently (thats what I did for the oblivion guide I had *so that I could quickly flip back to the section about sigil stones and at what level their strengths change* but if you wanted to have tangible information you could just print out the screen (I don't think thats against forum rules, and if it is I don't know how they would inforce it) so that you don't have to keep checking back at the forum for the same information.

If you must use a guide, then just use http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Fallout:_New_Vegas wiki page. It has everything you'd find in a strategy guide and so much more, and it's free.

However, I recommend just not using a guide at all. I know it might be frustrating sometimes, but I remember pretty much spoiling the entirety of Oblivion for myself because I used a guide while playing. Also did it a little bit playing FO3. Trying not to do that again with NV.

You may think guides are overpriced but in reality, most of them actually are not. If you worked in this industry at all, in one way or another, you will know a lot of time goes into these guides. From not only writing them, but getting screenshots to cover each specific part of said writing and much, much more. Time is money, and a lot of time goes into these guides. You cannot expect to always get things for free in life, or cheaper. Grow up.

That said, the guide is extremely helpful in one way or another if guides are your thing. From rather you just want information on what choices you actually want to make ahead of time to finding specific items you want to use to just nearly about everything else you can do in this game, it will be in the guide and then some.

Also, as far as when I said you cannot expect to always get things for free in life, you will need to look to online wikia's as mentioned already and I do below here. But they will not have all the information available as a strategy guide does at first and takes a few weeks, if not months, for nearly almost all details in one way or another for them to appear as people contribute to it. It comes down to if you are playing it now, and want information now versus having to wait for it later or ask around online.


As the weeks go by, online wikia's and other various sites will have a lot of information. I myself have been working on doing the same for the site I work for.

I simply prefer the guide because it's easier to find what I want to know. Unless the search function has improved tremendously, I'd rather just look it up in a book.

And the giant map that comes with the book is very nice as well

I tend to only use walkthroughs when I am stuck at a certain point. Or if I have went through the game another way and want to go back and do things differently.

I guess I'm just getting anxious because I can't find any full walkthroughs yet.

The wikia doesn't have all the info yet, of course, but it will be more complete than The Vault in about a month, I'm sure.

I always buy game guides for these types of games. They are helpful when you are stuck. I don't use them constantly but sometimes I reference them especially to get the good rewards for quests I've screwed up and gone back to redo.

For as long as you have a fast and stable internet connection it is not worth it.

YES YES YES. The soft-cover really isn't expensive and it's a wealth of information that will help your game. I'm learning about the companion characteristics, the weapons, the ammo...just everything. You don't need to look at the quest info unless you get stuck, I don't. So I'm voting yes.

I like to check the notes on an area (like the rocket factory) as I'm just about to finish it to see if I missed any cool items, and sometimes check decision points to get a general idea of where they lead. I'll only play the game once through, so it's handy when a question comes up. I got mine of a major online retailer for $15. The guy who does the Fallout series (he also did FO3) does an awesome, comprehensive job on these guides.

If the guide is to any game with 'pokemon' in its title, its worth it. Otherwise no, waste of money.

Is it worth it? Probably not seeing how the information can be found for free on the internet. Does that stop me from buying them? No. It's easier to flip through a book than to change floors or go into a different room to pull up information on the web.
