Where are the local install files?

Hello all,

The number of problems I have have had with this game are too frustrating to get into all at once. So firstly, what I hope should be a simple one.

Where are the local game files, assuming you have installed through Steam (which I'm not sure you have a choice about)?

They are not where all my other steam games are (c:\steam\steamapps\common or c:\steam\steamapps\-username-).

I've not changed any setting in steam since installing other games but the files just aren't there. I've searched for "fallout", "new vegas", "new" and "vegas" to no avail. All it finds are the save files etc in the Documents\FalloutNV folder.

I want to try the .dll fix but without locating the local files I'm completely stuck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this could be a great game if it actually worked...

Well, if you bought & installed via Steam purchase/DL, they're in the steamapps/common, like you already mentioned. I assume you've actually looked at the directory tree to see if they're there, not just Searched for file names. :D
If you installed from a disc I believe it puts them in a slightly different place...I just don't remember where, since I use the DL version. I'd guess the usual Program Files structure, tho.

That's the weird thing - I've looked and they aren't there, or anywhere else that's obvious.

Could you (or someone else who reads this) tell me the names of a couple of files which should be present in the folder that are specific to New Vegas, so I can search for them and find the folder that way?

Cheers.

Fantastic. Found it!

For some reason, it put them on my C: drive in another steam folder within program files when all my other steam games are on my larger D: drive. Bit odd but at least I now know where they are.

One problem down, a few more to go. They can wait for another time though.

Thanks again.
