Replacing perks?

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 10:14 pm

Hi,

I hope this post isn't against forum rules, but its the best place I could find to ask my question.

I took Shotgun Surgeon by accident, and I am hoping I can use console commands to remove it and add a different one (toughness rank 2). My question is if I do this, will my save game get corrupted or banned from Steam or something horrible like that?

Friend we all use the console and I highly doubt it'll corrupt or delete your save or get your banned from Steam or these forums. I'd make a save before doing it then just do it. Besides accidents happen, right?

Lol torn this isn't a MMoRPG. This is a single player game therefore you can mod, consol command, cheat, glitch all you want it really doesn't matter because its your own game experience and how you play it is your own personal preference. As to how you remove or add perks to be honest I'm not sure but if you look into the wiki under "consol commands" there should be a list of possible ones to help you out.

Profligate! :shocking:

I kid. :) If you use any console commands you'll be unable to get any achievements until you've rebooted the game, but that's the only 'negative' effect you'll have. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Console_commands is a list of Fallout 3 commands, the commands for adding/removing perks should work in FONV as well.

Don't forget though that if you use a console command, save your game afterwards (as well as beforehand) then exit the game, restart it and load that save - Steam doesn't care whether you use the console, but it will stop you getting achievements for the rest of that session - save, exit, and reload will enable achievements again :)

Edit - beaten to it!

Ok, I'm going to try it... but I swear to God if the Earth's core implodes, I'm blaming you guys! lol

edit - the reason I posted first was because I know Blizzard was banning people for cheating in singleplayer, so I wanted to double check. I have used the console to fix stuff before, mostly to get myself un-stuck when I clip into rocks and whatnot while exploring the mountainous regions of the Mojave, so I knew about the disabled achievement thing (though too late for my first playthough - I get to do all of the NCR endgame quests again to get the achievements. Not that I need an excuse to play more, of course).

I've replaced perks before in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, works fine. And it's not cheating, it's re-speccing ;)

The commands to use are:
player.removeperk
player.addperk
