Perception and Accuracy

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:05 am

The description of Perception says it increases overall accuracy right? but on the fallout new vegas wiki page for perception is says:
"Contrary to what designers said pre-release, perception had no independent effects on ranged weapon accuracy."
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Perception

so which one is the truth?

bump so this doesn't get lost on page 25 in 10 seconds under a pile of whining.

I am really interested in this too. when you're making your character in the game it lists "accuracy" as one of the things effected by perception as well.

I'd be interested in knowing where the wiki pages come from... i.e. did someone copy them from FO3 and tweak them to fit New Vegas without verifying information, or do they have it from a hard source?

That wiki was wrong about hardcoe mode, maybe it's wrong here. It doesn't bother citing a source.

As far as I'm aware it only effects how early markers appear on your radar, and in FO3 at least, it had some unique advantages when engaged in some dialogue. As when you encounter the Mad Max type character, and see that his gun isn't loaded or is in disrepair or something.

What they say can't be true, because I have definitely noticed that my accuracy was a bit lower between one point and the next. For example, I was hitting targets more straight on when I had the Suave Gambler hat on (increases Perception by 1) than compared to it when I wasn't wearing it.

If it is somehow true, however, then I just wasted putting some of my points into perception again... :sadvaultboy:

I hope it does because having skipped over Fallout 3 I had no idea perception had become a dump stat (it was rather important in 1 and 2) so I pumped several points into it and I hope I didn't waste them entirely.

I hope I did not wasted points too.

The Wiki section pertaining to FO3 is accurate as far as I'm aware. Perception effects Lockpick, Explosives, and Energy Weapon Skills... and determines when markers appear on your radar (hostile/friendly).

The wiki is clearly wrong. Is that even for NV or is it for FO3?

Perception affects your accuracy in NV, while Agility affects how fast you reload, pullout, change, and holster weapons.

Either way, it's not completely fail. It boosts some of your skills at least.

I just tested in VATS. Perception does not have an effect there. I made Perception affect gun accuracy in LAICEPS and it's very noticeable using that.

I rather doubt they made it work only outside VATS but someone else can test that.
