CTD'S. : Fallout: New Vegas

yeah yeah i know, CTD's, what else is new? get them every 10-15 minutes( I timed it) I refuse to just sit by here Picking my nose and waiting until this gets Resolved or better t say hope this gets Resolved.Had same problem with Fallout 3, windows 7 was not support so i say What ever *throws game in Garbage* But in back of box it states Windows 7 Support, So Please do Fix My Crashes So i can Enjoy the game once and for all, is that so much to ask?

W7 is not the course. Its the processor that you are using. With Fallout3 (NV uses the same engine) it will not recognise processors more then two cores.

It maybe a mod if its not it.

Yeah i tried it for Fallout 3 with no luck and also tried it with New Vegas Again with no luck. Doubt it is Mods Since i have None.

This has to be the biggest misconception going for fixing issues with this game. Using that ini setting to limit the game to using 2 cores does not work, the game still uses as many cores as you have. It's easy to confirm by opening the task manager and checking the performance tab. It's possible to set the affinity so limit the game to any number of cores you like, but it will only result in decreased performance. I'm so tired of seeing people regurgitate this info without having a clue as to what is really going on. If for some reason this stops your crashing it would have to be related to the setting the threadedai to on.

The game engine has always had tons of crashing problems way back before people were even using multi core cpus. It happens to people with all kinds of different hardware, software, and operating systems. The simple fact is that it only seems to effect a small percentage of the gaming population, and of those a lot are probably people who have legitimate issues with their pc that could be hardware or driver/software related. That leaves a small handful of people that are actually affected by some kind of problem with the game code that causes crashes with their specific pc configuration. Bethesda either doesn't know how to help these people, or they plain just don't care. Either way they already got your money and moved on to the next game/dlc/crash fest. Where's the motivation for them to help this small group of people? Just like with Fallout 3 they are done patching this game unless future dlcs cause mass problems.

To the OP I feel for you. It's very frustrating to play the game walking on egg shells just waiting for the next crash to ruin your gaming experience.

It sounds very much like the ffdshow issue, double check that you haven't it installed. It won't show up in the start menu or add/rem programs if it was installed by some codec packs. Search your system for ffdshow.ax (or look in the codec's program files subfolders for the ffdshow folder). If you find it, shell into that folder and run

regsvr32 /u ffdshow.ax

so it'll look something like this:

1) Look for the ffdshow folder and if you find it then do the other steps, if not then ignore this post2) Open a command shell (press Winkey+R, type CMD then click the ok button)3) C:\Windows\system32>CD "\Program Files (x86)\codecPackFolder\ffdshow"  {You press enter here}4) C:\Program Files (x86)\codecPackFolder\ffdshow>regsvr32 /u ffdshow.ax  {You press enter here}5) C:\Program Files (x86)\codecPackFolder\ffdshow>ren ffdshow.ax ffdshow.ax.stupid {May as well rename it to ensure it doesn't get picked up again}6) Close the command shell window

If it's not ffdshow, not a heating issue and not a memory limit prob then I wouldn't know what else.

I use the same i7 processor and it works fine for me (since the patches anyway). I don't think having more than 2 cores is going to be the cause of CTD's for most people. :mellow:

To the OP: Since you're using an nvidia card, you can try:

Nvidia control panel, under Manage 3D Settings, pick Program Settings tab, add the FalloutNV.exe to the list and for Power management mode choose Prefer Maximum Performance. This seems to help with CTD's for some people, but it's a not a guarantee.

Was not in a Codecfolder but in System32, found the little bugger...is it safe to delete it?
