New Vegas Collectors Edition localization

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:54 am

I live in Romania and I usually get my games from the UK. Now Bethesda decided to make the Collectors Edition exclusive to Game.co.uk And since they are a bunch of idiots living in the 90s, Romania isn't available as a delivery location from their sites.
I've found some sites in Belgium and Netherlands that will have the Collectors Edition available and that they ship to Romania.
My biggest concern is that the game will be localized in French or Dutch, rendering it unplayable from my point of view. Could someone please confirm what localization will the game have? I know from previous Bethesda games that voiceover is done in English but all the text may be in a specific locale.

What version of the game are you grabbing? While the console versions contain only one language, you can redownload the game in the language you prefer through Steam for the PC version.

That said, I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that every version of the game has both the voice acting and the subtitles localized.

I plan to get the Xbox 360 version.

I know for a fact that Oblivion on the Xbox 360 in Italy had the voiceover in English but all the ingame texts were in Italian. I'm assuming they keep the same standards for New Vegas but since usually games in Europe only handle the EFIGS package it may be possible that since Dutch language is involved, things might be different.

But Fallout 3 got Italian voice-overs, and that's a more recent example of how Bethesda has been handling localization.

Also does Besthesda handle that? NV isnt exactly there game. They simply publish it. I have never dealt with this before so please feel free to tell me if I'm wrong but I think Obsidian would handle the localization.

The Steam version is confirmed to allow you to download different language versions. The question is what kind of connection you can get over where you are so you can download the 10GB of game.

Here is the deal with the languages.

If you are on the console, the language is what you bought. The game does not have a multi-language install.

If you are on the PC, the initial install choice is the language you bought (if a retail CD, if Steam, it is the one based on the language of the bank that your card is from). However you can download any language availible from Steam. Not sure if you have to install it first, no matter what method you purchased it with, before you can download the other language.

However, just know that on the PC, it is one language at a time. If you want a different one, you have to download it again.

No game, and I mean no game will ever be translated into Dutch. We are just not a big enough country for that ;) Almost all of the games here are exclusively in English.

Games in the Netherlands are almost always played in the English language. (Games for children are usually translated to Dutch)

Fallout 3 was dubbed and subbed in English, im fairly certain Fallout New Vegas will be fully English as well.

I myself prefer playing in English anyway, so i would be disappointed if i found out that they translated FNV to Dutch, which is very unlikely.

Hope this helps, good luck getting your copy :tops:

I can confirm you that over here in Belgium games are sold in English, the only thing that might be in Dutch is the manual.
Well at least if you order from a Flemish (Dutch speaking) website otherwise it could be in French (Southern part of Belgium speaks French).

True. I would be pretty disappointed if they translated it.

Finally managed to get someone from the UK to get me a copy of the Collectors Edition, when surprise! Game.co.uk ditched me because I didn't preorder early enough and they were out of stock for the 360 version.
As it turns out, the 360 Collectors Edition version is out of stock for UK, in both Game and Gamestation. Way to go Bethesda for worst marketing ever. What's the point of hyping a game if you can't buy it even if you want it badly? And if I'd pay some overpriced bid in eBay with it, it's not like you get an extra profit or credit for making the world a better place for anyone.

Oh anyway, I don't know how much better would ranting make me feel, but if someone from Belgium/Netherlands can confirm the localization of the game in English as they should receive their games tomorrow MAYBE I could still find it in stock at the shops mentioned on Fallout's official website cause I'm really running out of ideas.

Good thing they still have the PS3 version available. I mean, it's not like it's Region Free and you can get it from every corner of the Earth and still be available to play it. Why not limit the limit on the 360 version?

Sorry about it, can't.... stop... the ... rant.
