Obsidian - you have created the game I always hoped for

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:04 am

I just found the Brotherhood of Steel. Amazing!

The dialogue throughout the game so far, the many side quests, the having to choose not one or two or three sides but multiple sides, multiple factions is wonderful!

From Powder Gangers, to NCR, to BoS, to Legion, to the hints of other groups to come.....

To have dialogue that is long and fleshed out and provides true background - excellent!

I have always wondered why developers create amazing sandbox worlds and then fill it with mundane quests, no politics, vague stories.... you have transformed the sandbox into my dream world!

Thank you so much for your hard work! Kudos, Obsidian, Kudos!

Yeah I was genuinely suprised by the characters and character development.

I actually feel like a character, not just a mass murderer.

There are actually decisions in this game.

YOU actually help determine the social/political structure which is amazing.

Not a spoiler, man. We knew this was going to happen. :)

I reckon the definite ending is good, as we'd hardly see the conseqeuences of our actions, otherwise.

I didn't know, so it's a spoiler to me. Read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoiler_(media)

So yeah, it's a spoiler.

Again, I apologize. Maybe you should edit your post as well to prevent anyone else seeing it.

I don't mind having a definite final ending as long as its epic.

I agree, I think I really am going to have 2 or 3 characters having different morals and choices, to see different sides of the tale(unlike FO3, where I only had one and couldnt care less about making another one, for what!?)...

I love the implementation of character decisions affecting the outcome... and there's so many different routes!

Thank you Obsidian and Bethesda...

Oh, and I know you will have a patch asap for all these minor bugs :)

I did.

Sorry if I came off kind of strong, just been reading a lot of spoilers on accident today.

Many of the side quests (of which there is a HUGE amount - woooo hoooo!) feel more complex and defined than Fallout 3's MAIN QUEST, let alone FO3's anemic sidequests like the Nuka Cola and the "election" of 6 people.... the sidequests often feel deep and complicated (currently doing a BoS faction within a faction quest) in FO:NV.

I'm in heaven.

I mostly just come here to read about technical aspects of the games (the editors, or the slew of bugs we had to deal with on the PC during various launches) but for this game I felt like I had to add my opinion on the content as well. Especially considering how much negative feedback there's been in regards to bugs (like many people playing on the PC I spent the first two days searching for solutions to a massive performance glitch, which was just found this morning). While I agree that QA (or Valve, hard to tell) dropped the ball somewhere along the line, I think it's unfair to let that overshadow the really excellent game that Obsidian has created using what is arguably an engine that's nearly half a decade past its prime.

I completely agree with the OP, and to be honest this is what I was hoping Fallout 3 would be (not that I didn't enjoy F3 as a game, I just didn't care for the writing). The farther I get into it the more I feel like I'm playing an actual sequal to Fallout 1 & 2. I'm sure the fact that some of the original Fallout devs were onboard has something to do with that.

These are the things I like to hear. Since the bugs have kept me from playing much yet I like that other are seeing real RPG elements.

This is why it being in Obsidian's hands was so much better then Bethesda trying to make another empty RPG on their own.

Now if only Bethesda can only fix the freaking engine or make a new one that works... not likely for either are this point. :(

Knowing they will never uncap the game ending makes me not want to bother spending all these countless hours making a character and playing. Sorry but in my opinion it is pointless to make such a massive open ended world only for the game to end anyway, just a waste of time and energy. If in fact they will leave it ending like this then they should have made crappy little linear world areas and not use Bethesda's Open Ended World type of creation.

It's better than Fallout 3 in my opinion. I think we would be hearing a lot less bad things about if it wasn't so buggy. Oh well. Hopefully one large mega-patch comes some time in the future.

... and you don't think some enterprising modder(s) won't "fix" this for you?

I'm sorry if you purchased for a console. I don't get why you all continue to do that for games where the modability is practically a selling point. Perhaps you should contact Sony/Microsoft and express your opinion of that.

Expresate: I'd rather several smaller patches more frequently than a long delay and a megapatch, personally.
