I am wondering if fallout new vegas will work and with what type of quality on my HP G62 laptop. I currently don't have a nice computer to play on and wanted to get this game. It has an AMD II P540 dual-core processor 2.4 GHz and 3 GB of RAM. It also has about 300 GB of hard space left.

Do you have 32-bit or 64-bit window?

Another very important question - what video card do you have in there? If you are using onboard graphics (as most laptops do), you will never run it.

Just looked up the G62 (HP's site is awful to navigate), and at a glance, it doesn't look very positive for being able to run New Vegas very well.

Unlikely, as HandofBane said the issue comes with the graphics card. I can run Vegas on my laptop in terms of RAM and processing power but my graphics card is the onboard Dell one, it doesn't come close to the requirements of the game unfortunately.

I have a AMD M880G with ATI mobility radeon 4250. I'm not sure how good of a graphics card that is but can you run it says that new vegas will play perfectly. So my question now would be is that info accurate?

No it is not. They are wrong so often there that it's a waste of time for anyone to go there. The HD 4200 / HD 4250 devices are the onboard Chipset video chip type of business quality chip that can't provide adequate game-playing graphics.

You'll probably get low settings at best with that integrated chipset.
