i have no interest in my companion burning ammo... but i'd like arcade gannon to have a bigger gun. what gun can i give him such that he will use it without ammo ?

marksman carbine, service rifle and assault carbine are all semiautomatic which means they can't spray with it.

of course you might want to put an energy weapon on arcade... which in this case I don't have much of a clue, maybe a gauss cannon?

Arcade prefers ranged weapons and they pretty much all require ammo. I haven't tried it myself but you could give him a fully repaired recharger pistol, I believe that does a little more damage.

you have 4 options.
1. Keep his gun.
2. Give him a recharger rifle.
3. Give him a recharger pistol
4. Give him any melee weapon.
Those are the ammoless options

ya i have read he will use a gauss gun but of course only with ammo... and at 5 MFC per shot i mean he would go through a LOT of ammo very quickly...

I gave him a tri-beam with 50 rounds ... he used it all before we killed 2 things... which is why i made this post really...

Its unfortunate that the companions can't use the ammo for their default weapons with a better weapon that accepts the same type of ammunition. Such as giving Veronica the 10mm SMG rather than her 10mm Pistol.

Arcade's aim is really poor so I can understand not wanting to give him ammo. After Arcade left I picked up Cass and even though she was a better shot she burned through ammo quickly.

i never even knew veronica had a 10mm... i gave her pushy and a ballistic fist and i've never seen her use anything else. i have been using her all game and she is a great companion. armed to the teeth, no ammo problems, and power armor...

but this play-through I am siding with caesar and I know he will ask me to blow the BOS bunker... in which case veronica will no longer be an option... so i'm trying to find a suitable replacement and arcade gannon was my first choice... i guess i could try lily since this ammo thing seems like a non-starter...

put her to ranged, she'll use her pistol then, but with giving her pushy or the ballistic fist getting her to use a gun is neutering her quite a bit

Arcade is 'OK' with his Plasma Defender, just Raul and Boone who set the par a bit too high.

Tell him to go melee if you get PA for him.

Boone is the worst...

5 clips for a little rad scorpion ..he couldn't even see it clearly and just starts shooting. EDE just floated over and zapped it.

That's why I like Veronica..Ballistic Fist for the win !

Unless you're heavy weapons. She's run into my firestorm or hail of bullets almost every fight.

FYI: Arcade probably won't go along for the Caesar quest line. When you recruit him he says quite explicitly that he will NOT travel with you if you help Caesar.
Lily, Raul or maybe Cass??? (I'm currently on a not-so-nice play through and I'm going to try to take Cass to Caesar first. Hopefully she won't freak out.)

If Arcade turns out not liking you being too close to Caesar you can just sold he/tell he to join the Remnant.
