Fallout: New Vegas Collectors Edition problems

Hello,

Did anyone else who bought FNV CE also get a Steam version? I am frankly surprised about this. I ordered a FNV CE from GameStop, quite "usual" game and all and was quite happy when it got delivered. Slapped the DVD into drive and it ran Setup and... Steam setup popped up? I did not want to get a Steam game and yet this CE seems to be it? Nowhere in game info was it mentioned anywhere that the CE is a Steam game. If I would have wanted a Steam game, I would have bought it over the Steam and not spend almost $150 for the game together with delivery! Is non-CE also a Steam game? And now it seems that I can't even use GECK with this Steam since it has apparently "hidden" my game installation heck knows where and I need to search through all of the folders in hopes to find it, and I am not even sure that this GECK will actually work with this version. But that aside - what the heck is up with this Steam thing?

ALL versions of New Vegas use Steam. This has been known for months, nearly a year. you only need to use Steam online for the authentication, after that you can switch to offline mod. Though you'll need to switch it back for updates.

As for modding/using GECK.

Steam will have installed to the following location or similar..... C:/program files/Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout New Vegas

Valve went out of there way to create exes for Oblivion and Morrowind that were compatible with the script extenders and Fallout 3 was fully mod compatible, so modding won't be an issue.

Steam games are in the Steam folder, under steamapps\common. And yes, all versions of NV are protected with Steamworks.

Guess I missed the news where it was written that it'll be a Steam game. I just don't like this kind of "looking over the shoulder" from such application, or needing to log in to some dang service to run things. Especially when I didn't "order one". But thanks for clarification, annoying thing as it is at least it's clarified now. And thanks also for the path, found it and now GECK's working too.
