sabotaged railway, hidden valley bunker, rebreather

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:49 am

I decided I would post about three problems I had, looking for help, instead of spamming the forum with three different topics.

1: the sabotaged railway at camp McCarran
in this mission I (spoilers) killed the spy in the tower, and took the activation code.
when I got to general Hsu, he told me about the monorail, which I ran after, completely ignoring boone and rex, which I had left waiting for me by the entrance to the building (I didn't want them to blow my cover in the stealth portion)
I ran to the monorail, heard the voice 'the train is leaving...' hopped on just in time
YES!
then the train just left me behind. I passed through the back end, and, horrified watched the train explode.
every time I reloaded the save, the same thing happened. I eventually gave up, and went on with my other missions.
is the train supposed to be unsavable?

2: hidden valley bunker
(spoilers) I was wandering earlier, and came across this 'hidden valley'
I was all giddy and excited, thinking I had found my first vault, but every entrance was destroyed.
eventually, I got to one with a tree stump on top, and found that there was something inside.
I looked it up, and apparently it's the BoS. but they don't respond on the intercom, and the door is locked as very hard, and bad karma to open.
my questions here are:
a) will the BoS hate me for breaking in?
B) is there another way in?
c) if not, is it worth building up my lockpicking for? (I'm level 13 right now, lockpicking is at 50)
d) how much am I missing if I just pretend I never found the place?

3: the rebreather (specifically with the boomers)
(spoilers)
I had found the boomers, and was excited when I learned a mission here could get me the rebreather.
I approached the guy who gave out that mission, and he told me to find him the love of his life (la de da...)
afterward, I approached him, but he had no more missions for me, and had not yet given me a rebreather
I had a pressure cooker and everything!
what am I doing wrong

thanks? I'm loving this game, it's well worth the obsession. :)

In response to 1. - When you get the activation codes the bomb is about to go off, why did you think that was a good time to go and have a chat with someone else about it? When you get those codes you need to run as fast as your legs can carry you to the bomb to defuse it, anything else and the monorail will blow up!

I had no idea it was for the monorail!

Go to the 188 and recruit Veronica and then go back to BoS. Should let you in. Or if you have Ed-E you'll get a message to have BoS look at him.

Did you kill him before overhearing his radio transmission where he talks about the monorail? Best method IMO is to hide and listen to his radio conversation, pickpocket him for the codes (skip this step if you have 45 science or 35 explosives) then run and find the bomb, only then go talk to Hsu and give him the good news that you averted disaster....

#3 Make sure you ask Loyal how you're supposed to function underwater and he'll tell you "Hold your breath" and then he'll mention that the other guy (Jack?) was working on a Rebreather. Then talk to the other guy and mention the Rebreather.

1 has been answered, as far as 2, there's four ways to get in there. You can get a free pass (figuratively, not an actual ingame item) by having Veronica in your party. She'll use her password to gain entrance. If you find some dead Brotherhood of Steel Paladins and take their mission holotapes, you can use their password to gain entrance. One pair of Paladins can be found in the Nellis artillery field, which should be safe for you having already been to Nellis. The third way to enter the bunker is to pick the lock; they won't be any more cross with you than any other method except bringing Veronica. The final method to enter is to do the main quest until the point where you're ordered to destroy the Brotherhood of Steel. Entering the bunker with that quest active will cause them to come out and apprehend you - the same as with any other method except Veronica's free pass. Without Veronica, you'll be stripped of everything you own and taken to see Elder McNamara, who will fit you with a slave collar and send you to do a task. You can retrieve your belongings before embarking on the task. Once the task is complete you have free run of the bunker.

3) Not sure what's going on there.

The BoS love visitors to their bunker. They all come out and give you free hugs.

I have Rex and Boone, so I will have to send one of them away... but they will be re-recruitable back at lucky 38, right? where is 188? where is Ed-E?

oops... he saw me right away, and started telling me off on how I shouldn't be in there... when I explained, he tried to kill me, so i didn't really have a choice.
I'll do it right on playthrough #2

aah! I thought the quest had to be from jack! makes sense now---I'll get on that, & tell you how it goes.

can I still do the quest for BoS with veronica? I'm not sure which would be more fun, veronica or being enslaved... hard choice since I already have boone and rex for followers.

EDIT: just remembered another question: how do I interrogate the legionnaire at camp mccaran?

I had a high intelligence character that bluffed him into believing i was sent by the Caesar to kill him for getting captured. Quite an idiot since my character was a woman :lmao:
