Currently playing on a PS3 slim and it's getting pretty bad - I usually have about 30 minutes before I have a hard freeze and have to power the PS3 off with the button (makes the 3 beeps and shuts off). Wandering the wasteland I get pretty consistent stuttering now (feels like I'm running at about 15 - 20 fps). I'm pretty far into it (level 28 / 8MB savegame size) and it's been getting progressively worse since about L22 or so.
If stability-wise it's better on a PC I'd be willing to pick up a copy. As for bugs I don't really care either way - stuff like the C-finder not firing, or monsters getting stuck in rocks, or quests getting stuck (I could go on...) I can deal with, but the stuttering and crashing has made it pretty tough and I don't think I'll be able to finish it. The story in this game is excellent and I feel like I haven't even explored half the wasteland yet (I only just found the remnants armor) and I'd really like to keep playing.
As for my experience I did purchase FO3 for the PC only (not PS3) and it was pretty much flawless. I went PS3 this time partly to take advantage of the larger monitor (tv) and also because I don't like using a computer mouse for hours at a time (but I don't have any problem with the PS3 controller).
Thanks in advance for any feedback. I'll keep in mind most people on this forum are here because they're having problems, not because the game is working perfectly and they just stopped by to say hi.
