Is the food sanitizer functional?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 8:09 am

I just looted two food sanitizers.

I was just wondering if they are functional.

IE do you get more HP from food you eat when carrying it around?

I used the G.E.C.K to poke around with it, but didn't see any scripts attached to it.

But then again I'm not sure how the scripting worked for the item in the first place.

I found that as well, I tried everything, even taking it to every bench and seeing if it worked. I haven't found a use for it yet. It's heavy though.

Don't have the game or Geck yet for NV so can't check, but I think it works from the food item side.
If I recall properly from rooting around in FO3, there's a variable amount of health you get from the food, depending on whether the food sanitizer is in your inventory r not.
So check some food items in the geck and see if that looks like the case in NV as well.

What the Food Sanitizer is supposed to do is remove Radiation from the Food. I picked one up last night, but have not tested it yet myself.

So, check the Rads on some food in your inventory then drop the Sanitizer and see if the amount on the food changed. Then, if there is no change, eat some food, see what the change in Rads are for you, then put the Sanitizer back in your inventory, eat the same food and see if the Rad's absorbed is less or more.

I do remember the Sanitizer in Fallout 3 would give you a message if you took it in or out of your Inventory. Perhaps you need to do something with it in the game to get it to work.

I think you need the Abraxo cleaner if im not mistaken to be used with the food sanitizer.. I may be wrong but this is what i remember from FO3. found both in FONV but havent used it yet. I think it gets rid of RAD

Just checked in the FO3 geck, DandyBoyApples as an example.
On eating, has these effects:
+3 Radiation
+5 Health
+1 Health IF you have the sanitizer in your inventory.

So - in FO3, NV might well be different - it just give you +1 extra health from food, doesn't affect radiation damage, doesn't need abraxo (dunno where ya got that, Bart!)

Can someone with the NV geck just have a look at a food item, and see if it works the same in NV? It'll take ya two minutes.

I usually "cleaned" them with my trusty Tesla Cannon. :flamethrower:
One shot, sorted. :twirl:

It works, tried it last night when I found one. Nuka-Cola jumped by 3 points, IIRC.

I never bothered with it in FO3 'cos of the weight and the fairly minor health boost it gave food. But I plan on playing hardcoe mode in NV, so it might be worth its weight now.
Anyone playing hardcoe mode - do you have to eat much/often? Or am I mixing up health restoration with food requirement?

EIGHT hours to go! Gaaaack! Longest feckin' eight hours of my life.... :banghead:

If it does work, the benefits are minuscule. I decided to drop it and save the weight.

I'm waiting on the EU release as well, but from I hear you don't have to eat very much - at least, coming from the perspective of people who used the "Primary Needs" mod for FO3 hardcoe mode is inspired by.

However, unlike that mod (or the way it was integrated in FWE anyway) food still gives health in HC mode, so it might still be worthwile.

In FNV on hardcoe this might actually be worth the weight, unfortunately it doesn't work in FNV.
It worked in FO3, it just wasn't worth carrying since you could just live on stimpacks.
