Hey all. So it seems that I can't launch New Vegas on my computer. Nor have I ever been able to. Here's what's going on...

I run the game from steam. The game launcher runs. The first time setup ran fine btw. The launcher detects my hardware and automatically changes the graphics setting to medium. I hit play. The launcher closes. Then the launcher starts up again, detects my hardware, and sets the graphics settings to medium. Then I get frustrated. This loops goes on until I exit the launcher.

My thoughts on the problem... When I try to just run the game executable myself, it runs the game launcher anyways. So I think that each time it runs, the game executable checks if the graphics settings have ever been automatically set. Basically, a first-time-run operation. If they haven't, it runs the game launcher to do just that. I also suspect that my changed graphics settings aren't saving at all. That's how I get the looping launcher. I run the launcher, which runs the game, which runs the launcher. Let me know if this isn't clear.

I'm trying to run this on a lenovo w510 laptop. The highlights: Windows 7 64 bit, quad core i7 processor, 8 Gigs or RAM, Nvidia quadro 880m graphics card... Oh how I wish this thing came with a better graphics card.

A few other random things to note...
No, reinstalling did not work.
All drivers are up to date.
Yes, my graphics card isn't a supported. But a graphics card problem would likely result in a black screen, game crash, or BSOD. I'm not getting the chance to even test the card's performance. Also, it chooses medium settings. It should at least run.
I'll post a dxdiag after a few minutes. I like keeping posts clean.
I have ensured that all of my New Vegas files are not read only. So it "should" be able to write to a file (ini?) to store the graphics settings.
I didn't find a single registry key for New Vegas.
Let me know if any other info would help.

So I obviously want to know how to deal with this problem. Any ideas? Also, does anyone know exactly what file the launcher saves graphics settings to? Where is it? Does New Vegas use the registry at all? If any, where are those keys?

This sort of grasping at straws - I have similar problems with Bioware Launchers (ME1,DA:O, and DA2 demo). I finally contacted EA customer support and made a who bunch of suggestoin and after several back and forths they suggested make a new account on your PC. Low and behold I did that and the launchers work fine on that account. BTW I am running Vista-64. So try that and see what happens. I was floored by 2 things - it worked and EA customer support actually helped.

Well thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I wish I could give EA support a chance at helping me, but they're only available from 9-5... ugh. Any other ideas? Thanks

Just as a reminder this was debugging hint for a totally unrelated set of loaders from a different company. These are the other things EA told me to do before the account addition:

"1. Empty your Temp folder to prevent file conflicts. Click here for steps on emptying your Temp folder:

I suspect because its an unsupported card its not detecting the hardware properly. Sorry you might be SOL.
