Being PC based (hate FPS on consoles) i have been browsing the PC tech help forums a lot and was getting mighty worried looking at all the trouble people have been having. But hey...its fallout, got to give it a try! So today, after work, i popped to my local shop and picked up NV. Half an hour later i was watching the install go A-OK and just before i left to meet a friend steam was happily, if a bit slowly, patching the game. So, one long coffee and poster design chat later I was back firing up NV on my 5 year old gaming rig (32 bit XP, Athlon 64 X2 4600+, 2 gig of ram, 4850 1gig). All seemed to go well, the game set itself to high but at slightly lower than native res for my 22" wide screen (1200 horizontal instead of 1920) and off we go. What a nice surprise. Smooth as butter on the whole...just the odd stutter occasionally as distant objects load, no NPC lag, and in 4 hrs of gaming just one lock up thats not been repeated.
As for the game. Well, its Fallout...just like 3 but with a different map. And I loved FO3. Don't like the giant rad scorps though...very fast and my current guns are like pea shooters on them! But, its got good voice acting, the same old feeling as FO3 as far as game play goes but without that noob in a hostile world feeling you got from being a vault dweller. So over all Its pretty damn good, especially if you like FO3. No idea what the console versions are like but the pc version rocks...now to go find me some bigger guns!
