Anyone else have problems with the Casinos being cheaters? Playing with a character that has a Luck of 6 so it's not like he's unlucky. However i'm seeing some really weird coincidence that normally wouldn't just happen to me.

*Note: all examples are me playing the Black Jack tables*

Example 1:

Have 12 either via a 10 and 2 or a face card like King, Queen, or Jack and a 2. When I double down about 85 to 90% of the time the computer deals me a Jack, Queen, or King bumping me to 22.

Example 2:

Have 19 via a 9 and a 10 or face card and select to stay not accepting any cards. The dealer will get 20 about 80% of the time without any problems.

Example 3:

Have 20 with 2 face cards and select to stay with the computer getting 20 as well about 50 to 60% of the time.


Probably just me, but it feels like the computer is cheating and I mean "REALLY" cheating me. If it was lower like 30 to 40% of the time I wouldn't care. However out of the 40 to 50 games I play the computer winning 35 to 45 of those games gets kind of annoying.

Sorry, just had to say that, but in reality, losing 80-85% of the time is pretty bad. It means you'd have too push your luck up to 8 or 9 to even have a chance to come out ahead.

At a luck of about 8 or 9 you almost always win. Basically you can view gambling in NV as you're either winning or lossing. I haven't found a luck that I considered statistically neutral where you win based off of chance rather than luck. The dealer follows proper rules that between 17-21 they instantly stop getting cards but the game will give them the exact cards they need to beat you if they are below and you have a low luck. It isn't built to be statistical, it is built to be luck driven.

My first couple of play thoughs, my luck was around 6, and the computer wound up killing me even if I use the standard hit/double/split/stay strategies based on the dealer face card.

The dealer draws lots of 20s and 21's from 16, usually beating my 12-19 "stay". I just got the Luck implant bringing the stat to 7 on my latest character, but I haven't had a chance to gamble with it yet. We'll see if that helps or not...

I may roll a new high luck character for, just to get the "break the bank" achievement and maybe take advantage of the criticals with a sniper build.

Naw this is worse than a real casino since a RL one has to let their customers "Think" they are winning. This is done by having set percentages with certain items and majority rules, etc... . However with a computer devs can make up whatever they want so...that's kind of why i'm saying the Casinos are a bunch of cheaters. Again I don't expect to win 80-100% of the time, but only wining 5 to 10% of the time is really stupid. What's worse is my other character who has a luck of 6 as well does fine at the casinos or atleast before the recent patch he did well. Not sure how he would work out right now and may need to test it out to see how it works out.

As someone who spent several painstaking hours trying to get the "break the bank" achievement on a character with only 4 luck, I certainly feel your pain.

The house always wins, bub. try increasing your luck through armor, or aid items, and get the "probability calculator" implant from the new vegas medical center. you'll be getting banned from the strip's games in no time. Go on and break the bank.

The tipping point is about 7 luck.

The only painful casino to break the bank at is the Ultra-Luxe. All the others have slot machines where you can bet 200 chips and eventually hit a 80:1 or 160:1 payout. At the UL, you have to play 35:1 odds on the roulette table, and adjust your bet back to the max before every single spin by mashing the [E] key about a dozen times.

I started a new character with 7 luck. Not sure if this is a bug or not, but the difference between Luck 6 and Luck 7 is almost like night and day. I broke my first bank @ the Vikki and Vance Casino playing slots. In retrospect though I should have maybe slowed things down and played blackjack to get the incremental awards and comps in between... =p

It feels that way because it's based off your luck entirely. Even if you play it safe the cards that the dealer gives you or himself is based off your luck. If you had your luck at 10 you could double down with Jack and a Queen and magically get an Ace. Also you get high cards 80% of the time with high luck as well or if you do get low cards and double down and end up with like 11, the dealer will bust. lol, I think it's funny because that's one of the main reasons why I don't gamble in real life. I'm always paranoid about unfair advantages. If I think deeper about it, If I can't be sure that I'll win I wouldn't play. lol So don't play the casinos if you aren't high in luck. Unless you like giving away free caps... Because the deck of cards the dealer is using isn't really a deck, it's just cards coming out based on your luck....

FNV Blackjack is much harder than RL because you can't count the cards to work out your probability of winning. The hands dealt are computer-generated random, and not only that, they're luck dependent. With luck 6 I was -500 caps or more in all the casino's. After getting an upgrade to luck 7 I was winning 90% of the time. It makes the gambling mini-games a bit pointless really.

I have on occasion when playing the slot machine landed a cherry only to not get paid, I have also landed 2 cherries and got paid for only 1 cherry. I don't know if it is cheating or a glitch, but it felt like cheating because these incidents usually only happened after I won a few in a row.

I like that about the game. It gives luck a different use that is all its own. I played a gambler type character with luck 10 after implants. I almost never lost at the tables. If it was any other way it would be kind of like having 5 STR but being able to fire a minigun w/o any sway or being able to carry 250 lbs w/o being over encumbered.

Being that they are Vegas Casinos....I wanted to take them for everything I could...and I did! I would get myself 1,000 chips and then save my game. I would start at Blackjack, max bet and play until I got my first perk which also has you stand from the table. From there I would go hit a slot machine. I could typically get the remaining 2 perks, taking my chip count to around 9,000 then with any luck, I could hit the jackpot. I got 33,500 from Vicki and Vance's, 41,100 from the Tops, from Gommorah I got 37,500.

On my second playthough, my character had 10 luck. She basically couldn't lose at blackjack even when she hits or double down on 19's and 20's.

I generally play blackjack until I get close to the limit, save, then play slots until I hit a 80:1 or 160:1 payout that takes me well over it. May as well maximize my earnings before I get booted.
