Kill Malcolm Holes?

Can he safely be killed? Is he essential for anything? I looked on the internet for this info but I can't seem to find any.

I'm gonna bump this because I am really curious about this. I already killed him but if I need him for anything I will just load a previous save.

Is he the guy that says he was following you and tells you about the Caps?

On my first play through I let him walk off and never saw him again. My 2nd play through that I'm on right now, I killed him and he had caps on him even though he said he didn't.

On the Vault Wiki:

After speaking with the player, Malcolm Holmes will walk directly to the Mojave Outpost. He will disappear from the game once he arrives there. Since he usually has a few Blue Star caps on him, one should try pickpocketing him after the conversation ends.

That's good to know.... since I figured he would pop up again once you found a lot of those caps.... what do they do anyway? Do they really unlock some treasure thing?

Yeah that's him. I killed him and looted his body. I just like the armor plus the reward is crap for getting them all but I will collect the caps anyway. I just didn't want to kill him if he was needed for the Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottle Caps.

In all my games I let him go although I thought, he might have some caps. In my current game a custom companion ("Misty") shot him, right after he finished talking to me. Normally she does not shoot innocent people; heck, she opens fire only when something is about to attack.
Now I ask, if this guy is really the nice advisor or if he tries to pickpocket me, which might be seen as "attack" and thus, made my companion shoot.

He's not needed. You'll figure out what to do with the caps.

Yes. I accidentally killed him because the moron came up to me just as i was tossing dynamite at some powder gangers lol. I swear he's like the Bryan Wilks of NV. His suit, and hat together give you a +10 in barter, and he has like 10 star caps on him.

Yeah I usually kill him after the conversation. He does have some star caps on him and a couple other items that are decent.

I've made it a point to wait for him to show up before I leave Goodsprings. I take him out and take his merchant clothing and hat (total +10 to Barter? I'll just take THOSE right off your hands).

He serves no other purpose in the game but to make you aware of Festus and the Star Cap hunt. And to provide bloodthirsty murderers with some nice clothing.
