Nope you're meant to fail it's a small in joke, the next one is the real end of quest just go up stairs and look around for a hole in the floor.

It's a twist. Haven't you seen any M. Night movies?

Though this should be in the spoiler section.

I wasn't, the first time I got 50 caps I was playing an energy weapons character, the pew pew is an absolutely brutal weapon.

These days, it's usually a matter of 'not if I can help it' :D

Generally he has the most incorrectly-billed movies. I think the only one I actually enjoyed truly, was Sixth Sense. Most others were iffy at best for me. Signs was crap, Village was meh. I simply won't watch Avatar. You can't take 3 full seasons and cram it successfully into 90 min (or however long it is)

Ring-A-Ding! haha
My thoughts exactly. Lest we forget The Happening...or call it by a more fitting name, The Crappening.

What happens if you show up to Festus with fewer than 50 star caps? No info on this on the wiki.

he tells you its a good start but not nearly enough. then he climbs out of his box and strangles you, then jumps out of your monitor, and strangles YOU.

heh.

In all seriousness though he tells you one from a set of things basically amounting to "you have a few caps!" "good start, now get out there and find the rest" and "you're almost there, keep going!"

Ah, okay, thanks. I had considered just dropping by early and skipping Festus entirely to find the gun, now that I know what's in there. I imagine that robs you of the XP for the quest or something, though.

That, and you'll miss the oddly suspicious story of how the Sunset Sarsaparilla company was founded.
