The Good things about the game!

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:26 pm

There are so many threads talking about the bad things so I would like a thread to talk about the good things, the improvements, the cool stuff.

Myself I really like how the enemy reacts to when you have killed someone. In Fallout 3 they just didnt care or notice that their friend/gangmember lay dead by their feet. Heck, you could shoot one and the one just beside didnt even notice.
But here, they come running, checking the body. And they are not as stupid as they where i Fallout 3.
I also like that the badguys are people and not just crazy animals like the Raiders where in Fallout 3.

The majority of food items you come across aren't 200+ years old, but food that you would expect to find made from the local wildlife.
The survival skill, and all the goodies that you can make.
Ammo recycling.
I haven't noticed a recycled voice actor yet. I love Bethesda games, but they really need to quit using the same 3 people to voice their entire games :P (F3 ghouls and old dudes anyone?)
The Mojave is a much harsher and less forgiving place than the Capitol Wasteland. I can't just cut a swath through every encampment of raiders or whatnot I come across.
And speaking of raiders, the raiders are split up into different factions (Powder gangers, those viper dudes, escaped convicts, khans, and of course the legion) rather than just being 'generic raider mook #3'.
Which ties into: Factions, what you do during quests and such actually affects your standing with them, along with how many there are.
Also it's really pretty :)

I think that's enough for now :whistling:

I like the general atmosphere of the game better. I also think it feels more like an RPG because of the added depth of things like factions, gun modding, etc... It seems to be a little more difficult, too. Even on normal I feel like it's much more about survival that Fallout 3 because I'm definitely dying a lot more often. Voice acting is great and I love the quests and how much the game really opens up after a while.

And my favorite thing about this game so far has to be no subways...

Atmosphere
Crafting
Survival skill
Hunting Rifles that don't svck b4lls like they did in FO3
10mm Pistols that don't svck b4lls like they did in FO3
Survival skill (oh, did I already mention that? Well, let me say it *again*)

I love the way it starts you out. I love the need to really think about how I want to develop my character.

And Boone. I love Boone. Actually, I love his Companion Perk. Very much.

OMG !! This game is so awesome! One thing I really love is that I can do whatever I want, whenever I want and I'm not tied to one faction like in most games.

The endless threads made out of rage and tears from kids who are too used to being patronised in easy games are fantastic reading when I'm bored.

The fact the devs have to tell people there were consequences for shooting the first NCR trooper they saw in the face because they thought the service rifle looked cool. The fact that a certain radioactive dungeon actually brought their characters close to death. (Oooh! A challenge you actually had to prepare for!)

It's really entertaining to read, but also a little saddening. It's probably going to scare the FO4 and ES5 teams from adding genuine difficulty and consequences even more than they already are if FO3 and Oblivion are anything to go by.

Even though the game ENDS, I am loving every minute of it. I love the new companion interface and options. I love that the game is even hard on easy and not scaled where you can tear up Deathclaws at low level anymore. I have mentioned it before but this takes me back to old school Fallout and Morrowind. You have to stick to certain areas untill you are a higher level and even then you get you a$$ handed to you sometimes. I just love the gameplay now even compared to FO3 and Oblivion. FO3 was to easy and Oblivion was to conformed IMO. I like some of the newer perks and that you earn some by doing different things or finding companions.

FONV ROCKS!!!

7 hours in so far and just made it to the strip, this game is 5x better than Fallout 3 and there are almost no bugs except for a few graphical glitches like low-res textures in some areas. Also the loading times, they are so much shorter than the Fallout 3 ones. I also like the weapon mods, crafting, different types of ammo, and of course, THE STRIP.

I whole heartedly agree and I hope the companies go foward like with FONV instead of dumbing the games down even more. The dumbing down has already been mind numbing enough. Example: With Morrowind I never got bored of playing it PC modded or Xbox. I was still discovering things after a few years and loving every minute of it. Now with FO3 and Oblivion, I was bored to death after my 3rd or 4th playthrough. I tried recently to do Oblivion again and was bored after about a day. All because the gameplay wasn't intriging enough anymore to keep my interest.

My first reaction was that compared to FO3 this place was just so effing purty. Everything was so gray before. Though some of the critters are exasperatingly tough (Giant radscorpions, anyone?) I'm finding the new setting fascinating. I really have to cut back on my playing though - too much gives me a nasty headache. :cryvaultboy:

I began playing NV today and at least after first 5 hours of gameplay I really enjoy this much more than FO3. The ironsights is really a significant improvement, even though I kind of think it to be a form of cheating in the sense of roleplaying (my character has a small guns of 15 and I can beat a gang of thugs with a submachine gun while using ironsights). But it's still a lot of fun. HC mode is another great addition, the need to use doctor's bags whenever your limbs get gribled makes the game significantly more challenging since they cost a lot more than mere stimpacks. I haven't tried crafting anything other than a healing bowder (a get FO2 reference by the way) but it seems to be a neat addition as well. The town of Goodspring was in general very well made, all the guests were pretty generic, but entertaining at the same time. Unfortunately the next couple of settled locations have had very little to do, at least at this stage of the game, but fortunately all the characters and main story elements have been quite exiting so far. I run NV on a pc with maxed graphics and it really looks awesome, so graphic vice I'm completely satisfied (dunno about the console versions though). I also love the possibility for really weird random encounters.

I was actually surpised how many ambient titles of NV were taken straight from FO2 - I was expection there to be maybe a radio station that would play those but they are actually an essential part of the whole games ambient music. I actually like this, since I love Mark Morgan's compositions, but I also understand those who think that Obsidian just took the easy way to please FO & FO2 fans.

As someone mentioned already, the NPCs react to your actions better than they did in FO3 - for instance if you hold up your gun, civilians usually back away from you or raise their guns toward you. This reminded me of FO & FO2, where city guard in every city (other than maybe New Reno) always greet you with a line like "Put your f*cking gun down".

And lastly, factions. A lot of them, all with their own interests. This was one of the main reasons I only played FO3 through once - the lack of interesting factions. In NV that issue has been solved. I also like the way you can't be in good terms with all factions at the same time and complete missions to them if you are working for their enemy, so multible play throughs are required to be able to explore all the different guests available. Adventuring is way more realistic and rewarding that way.

All in all, I'm expection a lot from this game. So far, my expectations have been met quite nicely.
