Boone screwd up my plans

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:39 am

So i know boone hates the legion and i thought i could get around this by making him wait or dismissing him when goin to legion areas. Well I got close to a legion camp and it caused his dialog to pop and no the legion flat out hates me. I didnt kill any of them yet, havnt seen boone kill any. AND my rep is neutral. I dont rly want to dismiss him for good right now cuz he helps a ton. I was gana lean more to legion with this game but with this i cant now so i guess ima help the ncr out this time. What would i miss out on in the legion?

What other companions causes you to be hated with other groups of ppl. Or what one is neutral standing with all kinda like ed-E.

You can always dismiss Boone when you want to do a Legion quest and then rehire him (he goes back to patrolling Novac). But otherwise, yes, you cannot support the Legion or have a bad rep with the NCR if he's a member of your party. Legion will always be 'hostile' and he'll always kill them on sight & he'll leave if your NCR rep falls low/you kill a lot of NCR. If you want Boone, that's the way it is. (edit:if you haven't killed any Legion yourself yet, you can fire Boone and they should go back to being 'neutral'...eg, blue on the compass..so you could continue from there)

Veronica isn't far up the road from Novac, you could try her. She's more melee-oriented and Brotherhood tho, so I think she'll go away/leave if you start to have a bad rep with them, or something.

Boone & Veronica are the two (human) companions you can get very easily & early...the others are harder to reach or at least more complex to acquire at low chr./skill levels. Tho I'm sure some have figured out ways to get 'em early anyway...that just wouldn't be me. ;)

I think just having Boone with you screws it up, almost like wearing NCR armor or something. But like others have mentioned, there's a heavy, anti-Legion bias in this game. I don't think you can work with too many companions and work for the Legion. Boone is a definite no, Gannon's not a fan of them either. Cass, Veronica and Lillie I'm not sure about. ED-E doesn't care, and not sure about Rex.

Yup, Boone's just auto-Legion-attacks you. :) But for the OP, as long as you haven't made the Legion hate/vilify you yet, firing Boone should work to take away the Legion's 'red', instant-attack flag, I've done that before and it was fine. If it's not working, probably a bug. But once you're hated/vilified they'll stay red even if you fire Boone, until/unless you do enough to raise rep somehow.

Arcade Gannon doesn't cause Legion to 'go red' far as I know but he won't join you if your Legion rep is too high. Not sure if he'll leave if it becomes high after you hire him however. I think most of the others are "ok" with Legion supporting, even if they're not super excited about it.

Cass I think just threatens to leave if you have poor/evil Karma.

For the OP, if you don't mind being really spoiled regarding companions & their situations, you can look at the wiki about companions and read for yourself: :) http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_companions

ED-E is another low level companion, everything you need to repair him can be found before reaching or in the town of Primm

Thanxs for the help guys. Like was stated by Acolyte this being heavy anti legion game. I think ill just go on with destroying the legion for this saved file and try it with a new game later on.

@ladycrimson - I keep telling boone "ill stay away from legion camps" when he asks me to help fight them, i read on the wiki there a quest for him to kill the legion. Is htere a way to activate this quest or dos it just trigger as i go to camps?
veronica sounds like she wouldnt like the NCR tho if she likes brotherhood. Being that brotherhood and ncr fight. is this true or can i get her with good standing in the NCR?

1-Veronica can stick with you for a long time of exploring/side quests regardless of what faction you're playing with, but there is a certain point in the game where a main-plot decision you must make will cause her to leave you. I think it applies to all but one of the main-plot faction paths but not 100% sure on that. With the NCR there is supposedly a complex way to avoid it if you know how, but I haven't tried it myself.

2-When Boone "warns" you, it's just a game warning to let players know if you do want to side w/Legion or do things peacefully, you can't do it with him along. He only does it the first time you approach certain towns/areas. They're not important otherwise.

3-Companions have a "companion quest" that is accessed by doing certain things/events in the game while they are with you. For Boone, this means you have to gain 'rep/history' points with him by doing certain quests in a way he likes. Most of the time you'll know it is or was an opportunity for Boone rep because he'll make a brief (non-menued) comment either as you get close to the quest area or after you've finished it to his liking. But some of them give no indication so.... :/ There's quite a few of them however, so usually not a problem to get what you need. But it can get confusing/frustrating 1st time, when there's so many side quests, heheh.

At any rate, every time you get some points, new convo options pop up. He won't let you know he has new convos, you have to check via the Wheel. With enough points, he'll eventually give you his quest. And yes, it does involve killing some Legion. :) Oh...and you have to have talked to Manny (the other sniper in Novac) about Bitter Springs, or the convo's won't show up in Boone's wheel. I don't know if this is a bug or intentional.
