Unintentional Left-Overs from FO3

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:11 am

So, it's pretty blatantly obvious that a great deal of the models and textures in FONV come straight out of FO3 -- but a lot meshes in well enough.

But sometimes you'll find things that they brought over, and, from either being sloppy or it being an oversight, they'd forget to update them.

An example would be the "Medical Fatigues." These appear to be a random clothing drop, that offer +5 Med. If you wear it, however, and check the effects, it'll read "Dr. Barrow's Lab Coat." Dr. Barrows was the ghoul doctor in FO3 found in the Chop Shop, and the clothing is exactly the same.

Either that ghoul found his way to New Vegas and lost EVERYTHING he had at the slots, or someone made a boo-boo. ;)

Anyone else find small unintentional mistakes like this?

Go to the shop in Freeside (can't remember the name, Mick and something), and ask to see the special items. There are infiltrators and a couple other F3 weapons hanging on the wall behind an inaccessable door (they're just props like the ones in the gun runners stall).

A few glitches from Fo3 were passed along to. For example jumping from a height that would kill you. You save beore hitting the ground the load the previous save and the game thinks you weren't just falling 30 stories to your doom. (very usefull for scalling things in the pit :D)

Drove me nuts that they used those guns that don't exist in Mick and Ralphs. Otherwise I only noticed a few ruined houses and a few other things that were reused from FO3. Lots of little stuff reused though, I know what you mean.

Or how about the Rock-It launcher schematic in the Nellis AFB hanger. That one pissed me off. Some of Obsidians dev were freaking clueless about
the stuff they threw into the world and never gave a second thought to.

Hell, for that matter, Obsidian didn't bother removing the old FO3 data from the esm's because in the GECK you have to sift through list after list
with FO3 and NV assets mixed together.

Bloody stupid IMO.

I really don't mind too much it's kind of annoying but the most annoying is they changed my Grimy Business Suit. WTH is up with that now it looks exactly like the Dirty Business Suit.

This is a glitch. When you drop the suits they are different, when you put them on they are the same.

Fire ants. Dr Lesko (I think thats his name) neuterd them so they can no longer spit hot fire but yet they still exist. Maybe some tweakers meth lab blew up in the desert and mutated nearby ants.

I made quite a hefty discussion in another thread, but I shouldn't have since I derailed it a little but the thread author was polite about it, so I won't post much here but yes I agree with your point.

Uhm. You do realize that D.C. and Las Vegas are in two seperate places in the country right?

Well of course they are going to reuse the resources, but I think leaving all of fo3's assets in the GECK was intentional. It's possible that they left them in not only to leave the options open to obsidian but also to give the modders more to work with. Including the assets also bypasses any copyright infringements that could be violated by a modder adding fo3 content to new vegas. Beth knows the heart of their games lies in the modding community, so it seems pretty obvious to me that they wanted their fans to be able to use fo3 content.

All T-45d power armour you get in New Vegas has the BoS symbol on the shoulder, even though it is not faction related. I'm guessing this is a relation to Fallout3 power armour...

I think he meant that Lesko was supposed to have created and then fairly quickly destroyed the fire ants in FO3, all in an isolated location. That makes their spread a little curious.

There's at least two buildings in the game that use that exact model. I know one of them is Tumbleweed Ranch, I think the other is the Mining Office building in Sloan.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if there's more.

That's assuming that the Fire Ants in NV came from DC.

Maybe the ones in NV mutated "naturally." Exposure to the FEV and radiation created Fire Geckos, it could have done the same thing to ants.

I agree - There is a lot more 'ambient' FEV on the west coast than the east coast, and thus fire ants more likely 'naturally' evolved there.

Yeah, there's a bunch ( Jacobstown lodge = Camp Golf resort = the ghoul's mansion in Point Lookout; lots of reused versions of Regulator's HQ; lots of identical shacks, etc.), but there are plenty of unique places, too.
I'm not too bothered by it. It let the devs concentrate on other things.
