Sigh. I leveled a character, a security Engineer/Soldier from 1-20 doing single player. Towards the end, singleplayer became unplayable on normal difficulty, due to a combination of enemy NPC bots being freakishly accurate, and friendly NPC bots being outright stupid. I tried multiplayer. Of the 4 games I played, two had no audio, and every other player was invisible. I lost a match because I could not see a demolition charge, even though I was standing right next to it, and was an engineer, and could have hypothetically defused it. I died over and over again because I can't see my enemies. My team won a single match, which was not bugged.
The single player of Brink is broken though horrible, horrible A.I. design. The multiplayer is broken through numerous bugs. I bought pre-ordered and bought 3 copies of Brink. I bought the strategy guide. I followed this game for months. I really wanted it to do well. But both single player and multiplayer are failures. I am not really angry the multiplayer is broken, bugs are inevitable at launch and hard to fix. I am however thoroughly angry about the single player. Single Player is not bugged, it just has truly horrible A.I. design, the worst I have ever seen in a game. How on earth could anyone design it so horribly? This game is designed so you rely on your team, but your A.I. teammates in single player are inherently unreliable. Whether you win or lose is based on luck, not skill. It is not challenging, despite how hard it is to win...because it is my luck being tested, not my skill.
Both Singleplayer and Multiplayer is broken. How is this even possible?
