[REQ] Explosions!

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:03 pm

There is a striking lack of explosions in NV, whereas Fallout 3 seemed like a bomb fest: cars, buses, baby carriages, mini nuke traps, megatons!, you name it. One of you brilliant egg heads needs to figure out how to bring the boom back to boom town!

Well, this isn't a Michael Bay movie, but I get your point. Cars still explode, I'm sure of it (I hid behind a car and every time I did, an explosion would kill me). And what are these "mini nuke traps" you speak of? I don't ever recall tripping a wire and getting owned by a mini nuke. That would've been way too overkill.

So do you want the explosions to be bigger, or do you just want more explosive stuff in general?

Working on more 'splodey stuff actually:) Bothered me too that I can make hollow point rounds at a bench outside but can't make a makeshift grenade?!? That and I used to love playing with landmines in FO3 but they seem much harder to come by to use excessively like I want too.

Should have an initial release tomorrow(I hope) with a basic setup.

I know exactly what you mean. There seems to be an extreme lack of secondary explosions in New Vegas. There were frequent occasions in FO3 when a stray shot would set off a chain of 3 or 4 separate explosions and there were areas that were clearly designed just to blow up in a spectacular way (the car tunnel or the overlook carpark for example).

The vehicles in New Vegas seem to be 90% the unblowupy variety. Someone should make a mod that swaps the all to the explodey type.

Pretty sure he's not talking about weapons. He's talking about stuff that explodes in the game world when you shoot/stand on/go near it.

Ahh, misread that.

Still agree though:) Not too many cars to blow up. Or other things.

Personally, I'd like to see this and a New Vegas version of http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1904.

A lot of the new vehicle hulks don't go bang. The new pickup trucks, for example. No boomey. I find that odd unless they're still ICE powered, but that would mean they're either diesels running on used cooking oils or they're gasoline engines converted to run on easily obtainable(Pre-war at least) alcohol.

- Baby Carriages are in GECK, but not used in-game
- All the other traps and bangers from FO3 are in GECK, most are used somewhere
- Concealed mines are actually used in FO:NV (they were never used in FO:3)
- There's a few new traps (Powder Charge mines)

I'm still playing the game through the first time, after which I'll be starting in on Random Extra Traps for New Vegas. I want to see how these locations play out as-is before I start livening up the wasteland.

But yes, there's a definite lack of boom... and possibly the booms are not large enough. I've been crippled by Powder Charge mines and Frag Mines, but I'm not completely terrified of them.

I think that there definitely is a lack of nice explosions, and one of the big problems is that after you leave the very early areas and stop worrying about Powder Gangers, you find yourself not in many situations with explosives. I would love to see some more 'High-level' explosive equipment in use, possibly even new assets such as Dynamite hand-cannons, to add a bit of a mad wasteland feel.
