Best way to optimize PC version?

The game is awesome, but as we know, there are frame rate drops..

My configuration: 3.0 GHz Core2Duo (E8400), ATI 4870 1GB, DDR3 4GB, Windows7 64bit, and I still can't play on maximum settings without occassional frame drops.
What are your experiences / configuration? How do you solve frame rate problems?

Share your thoughts,
Thanks

I saw your thread title and expected you to have a low end system when you said frame drops.. I have a 4850 and a 3.5Ghz Quad core intel (overclocked).. guess I wont be playing at full settings then :/

I've got a Q8300 (2.5 stock, 2.75 OC'ed), 4 GB 1066 DDR2, and an ATi Radeon 5830 (800 Core, 1200 Memory) 1 GB (GDDR5) Card. And lemme tell you, I've had more frame drops than lost game saves. And I've saved a lot in those last 12 hours.

On average 20-30 FPS. It's playable, but occassionally not enjoyable.
