Well the GECK is a program that the creators of Fallout 3 used to make well Fallout 3. It allows placement of items, weapons, anything in the game and scripting for special events and what not.

Anyway I don't think you would ever find anything like console commands or anything like the GECK or Construction Set for any Console because if then the console because it probably couldn't handle it. Heck I got the GECK on PC and it crashes... ALOT.

People who are voting no are mostly likely PC gamers.

You can already put fallout 3 mods on the console but only if you've modded your 360 in some way and do alot of mucking about (i saw an article a while back on it on the fallout wiki).

User made mods will never be allowed on consoles because of Microsoft and Sony. They simply will not allow it.

Well in that case I vote yes, but if its crashing on a nice gaming pc I don't see it working on the 360.

I once started this thread, a while ago i can see why you missed it, unfortanatly I compared The GECK to Forge in Halo 3 and some guy said Forge is a tricycle and The GECK is some kind of space station.

I voted yes any way, getting back to the "On Topic" but I was told it couldn't run it but what about a simpler form of The Geck, like a Mini-Geck... I would like to see it but, its no gonna happen.

Couldn't Beth or Obsidion release some of the most popular mods on XBL of the PSN, it would work wonderfully

The GECK is a windows based program meaning that it requires Windows and several libraries to run. Neither the PS3 nor the Xbox has windows or those libraries, so it won't run.

It's also far more demanding, reccomended minimum for running it is higher than the game itself. For instance it requires 2GB of RAM, compared to the 1GB required for the PC version and since the consoles only have about 512mb of RAM, it won't run.

Essentially, it's the same tool that the DEVs used to make Fallout 3, which they did on PCs. It was released on PC because it was made to run on PCs, since you can't make console games on a console, hence no console GECK.

Few companies will spend the extra time making a console based editor that they themselves aren't going to be using, especially as it's going to be heavily slimmed down just so it'll run on a console.

As for mods, as someone pointed out Sony and Microsoft are against it for the time being, but there's other issues too including a lack of distribution channels for user made mods, the issues of troubleshooting conflicting mods and the closed system nature of consoles meaning file structures and types are different.

Neither mods nor GECK on console will be happening anytime soon.

Since the thread can't really go anywhere except over old ground and since someone has already brought up mention of modding consoles, which breaks the EULA and isn't permitted for discussion here, I can see this thread going bye bye.

Of course we'd want a geck on the consoles but it won't work.
Still think they should throw in a bunch of stuff for the console version though.

Such as a special workbench where you can fiddle around with your weapons and create whatever you want, minigun-MIRV for example.
But if you use that bench it's considered cheating and achievements and trophy's get locked.
This will allow us to create these crazy weapons that PC players can in geck, it won't allow us to create new weapon models but still, all in good fun right?

Then maybe have a simulator like OA or Tranquility Lane where you can spawn every creature from the game.
This would not earn you experience.
I'm envious of the PC players that can spawn deathclaws and mirelurks then just watch the fight with popcorn in hand.
Or a behemoth versus 20 bloatflies.

This is of course no-where close to the actual GECK but it let's us [censored] around with some stuff if we want to.

Or they could just throw some freaking cheat codes our way....
Not thinking about god-mode or unlimited ammo but spawn codes for creatures and items.

Would I? Yes. Do I think this will ever happen? No.

The simple problem is that mods are rather finicky at times, also those who play with mods on PC would be able to tell you that you need a lot of third party applications to make things run smoothly. Think FOSE, BOSS-F, and FOMM. I can also see Microsoft having issues with this, I can very much see at the least achievements being disabled if you put mods on (Really, who even cares about them?).

Also it would probably be a hug undertaking, for Bethesda and it would mean that modders would have to take into account the limitations of consoles (Or just ignore them then the console people are left out of the really good stuff). I can too see that console producers might not even allow this to begin with because they are (Microsoft is anyway) very strict about tampering with your console. Now people have managed to get Fallout 3 mods onto their Xbox but it is also a violation (So I've heard) of the Xbox EULA.

Long post short, if it happens PC would still have better mods.

It won't happen.

Not only do Microsoft and Sony not allow it, consoles wouldn't be able to run a lot mods.

Consoles are closed systems that cannot be modded. You get what you pay for.

Creating mods on a console is not possible for more reasons than I can count. Using mods on a console is not possible mostly because Microsoft and Sony won't allow it for many legal and tech support reasons.

...not the least of which are performance problems...a lot of the more involved mods make the game a bit more resource hungry. Since the console versions of the games are tweaked to run well on their respective console, adding some mods would most likely make framerates tank like no tomorrow. A midrange gaming PC will typically have the horsepower to handle it.

That said, I voted 'yes.' Although I always play RPGs on the PC I have no reason to deny console users the use of mods if it were to be allowed. Mods are awesome.

I support console modding but sadly Microsoft doesn't allow it, console can't run the Geck, and other problems.

I don't have anything against modding on a console but it really isn't feasible. Even if MS or Sony would allow it (and neither seem inclined) the XBox 360 and PS3 lack both the necessary software to run the GECK and likely the necessasry hardware.

The GECK is a Windows application, not an application that runs in Windows, like the game itself, but an application built around Windows architecture. Neither console supports this so they can't run the GECK: so the the GECK would have to be built from the ground up more than ported. As for hardware, consoles are streamlined to play games and while this is great for playing games it means they can't handle some other things as well. The GECK's memory requirements are likely far too great for either console to manage.

If you do a search you'll see that this topic has already come up a few times in this forum. Given that there are hardware and software and security limitations in place I think we can very confidently say this won't be happening no matter how much some would like it.

If you want to discuss the issue of editors on consoles in general you can start a thread in Community Discussion. However since the GECK won't be coming for consoles I don't think this thread serves much purpose. *click*
