Things That Should Be Fixed For New Vegas

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:29 pm

There are things in Fallout3 that make the game not live up to the quality of the previous titles. I'd like to list these so that the same mistakes shouldn't be done.

1- Fix the unkillable characters bug. Make other ways to finish the game after quest givers are killed. If you should add unkillable characters to the game for other reasons, make it easy for modders to fix it.

2- Fix the engine. In Fallout3 characters movement looks like the game was made in the nineties. They show walking forward animation yet walk backwards, etc... It's first person now, so pay attention to the detail. Add a proper physics engine like euphoria.

3- Make body parts movable like in Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines. Make clothes, hair respond to gravity and make it natural. Clipping is the worst thing that can happen to a game.

4- Look at Fallout1 and Fallout2. There used to be tens of junkies dosing in the streets, prosttutes selling themselves, children running around committing crimes. Make Fallout unforgiving.

5- You could become a pormstar with the kama sutra perk in Fallout2. Reintroduce this to the game.

6- And add more conditional perks which effect how some characters and the world respond to you. Your perks could make different characters behave differently to you in the old games. Reintroduce this.

7- High or low luck caused random encounters. Reintroduce them.

8- Intelligence caused your characters speaking to change and the reaction he got. also you could have world changing solutions like advice irrigation to a farmer or find a more rewarding solution to a problem if you had high enough intelligence. Reintroduce this to the game. Perception caused your character to sense whether a person was not telling you the truth or depending on the surroundings and gave you other choices in the dialogue.

9- Fallout1 and 2 dialogues had character unlike Fallout3. Reintroduce this to the game. Not talking about spoken dialogue. Don't really care. I mean the written script.

10- Implement a decent AI to the game and make different creatures or characters behave differently. Make them take cover, escape when appropriate.

11- don't make the game black&white. Make it like Fallout1 and 2 where you had many choices and many of them had further effects. For example if you solve a problem by sleeping with someone low, make our character also gain a sixual disease.

12- Make the ingame music sound more like Fallout1 and 2.

13- Marginally improve the FPS combat. Be perfect in at least one aspect.

14- Make it worth it having a 10 charisma, or 10 perception or 10 agility

15- Make the game bug free. Don't forget things. Never assume the player won't do something. Let me give an example.

In Fallout3 there is a quest where you help a doctor cleanse the caves of fireants. You have a choice to kill or not kill the queen ant. If you don't kill the queen and return to doctor, He thanks and goes into the cave. After that he becomes a mindless junk. Because of a shortcoming of the game engine or something which was overlooked, he starts running madly in the cave because there is a fireant queen in the vicinity and he is fleeing from it. These are very unprofessional things which kill the immersion.

Check http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_bugs and never ever overlook these kinds of things. I still couldn't finish Fallout3 due to bugs I encountered. This is serious.

You complain waaaaay to much. First of all, Fallout 3 was far more ambitious and large than all of the previous Fallout games combined. Second, you don't know that your character isn't moon walking when he's going backwards :P Third, do you have any idea how hard it would be to implement an even more complicated physics system in this massive a game? Fourth, it already is worth it to max out a SPECIAL. You can carry more, you can see more, you have max health/resistance, people are as nice as they get to you, you get the most skill points, you get the most AP/run and jump faster and higher... That's about all the benefits. Fifth, they already do have perks affect the way people respond to you and affect quests. AI is fine as it is. If everyone ran away and hid from you, it would feel awesome at first, and then just get boring. Sixth, if you keep complaining about things like this game, the only chance you will ever have to have six is if they put it in this game. What I'm trying to say is that you will never engage in sixual intercourse with anyone if you always act like this.

I simply want weapon mods, which have been confirmed, and improved combat, honestly although I loved playing Fallout 3 the combat system is un-wieldley. :'| I'm not talking like crazy Halo 3 [censored], maybe more along the lines of ODST combat. Which was much more to my liking anywho, I hate being some [censored] superhuman.

They should fix the framerate issues for the PS3 version of the game, I couldn't stand the slowdown in Fallout 3 and I'm sure many other PS3 owners agree with me when I say this should be fixed. Make it happen please Obsidian!

They have time. I'm not asking for the impossible or something which has never been done before.. I'm talking about what we already have with Fallout1 and Fallout2. Considering their resources and what today's technology has become, these things I listed must be available for granted in a title like Fallout. Even some games which are more than 5 years old had most of what I'd like to see.

I don't understand why young gamers are so easy to impress. I don't want another game that I can play and forget. I want a Fallout that can stand the test of time.

Pretty good list and well thought-out. I don't know how much of it they'll really "fix" but I agree with most of it. Well--except number 5. That's actually not how you become a porm star (you need high endurance, charisma and agility) but it's also one of the overly "lulzy" parts of Fallout 2 which I don't think should be reintroduced to the series.

I didn't think he was complaining, to me it looks as if he was making a very thorough list. As to your second sentence, that's a bit hyperbolic. Fallout 3 was very ambitious to be sure--though not any more so than any other Fallout game. It was merely more ambitious in the scope of it's environmental design and open-world capabilities. It was certainly not more ambitious where quests, story-telling, dialogue, choices and consequences, the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system, relevancy of skills and general character development are concerned. All the games had their ups and downs. We can only hope that as the series moves forward the devs learn from previous pratfalls and give us better games.

I'm not saying they can't fix some of these things, but I'm sure "fixing" the engine isn't all that easy. It's a only a few months til release and I'm fairly certain production of the game is gonna take up some of that time. I think a lot of your idea's would be great for Fallout 4, which is still set a ways in the future but FO:NV is just around the corner really and some of these idea's are just not realistic at this point.

Firstly, if you want to contribute how to make Fallout New Vegas a better game, do so by leaving constructive comments.

Secondly, it is clear that you've never played Fallout1 and 2, and I'm sure your age is roughly enough to be allowed to play Fallout3. Also stop trying to be funny and commenting about six lives of people who you know nothing about. Act like an advlt.

You may like things I don't like about Fallout3. That doesn't mean I have to accept the same standards as you.

Please don't continue the cycle of trolling other people's posts. I already regretted putting it up, so don't try to play morally superior troll now. You didn't exactly put anything constructive up either. Besides, Fallout is evolving, so stop living in the past. Yes, I did play 1&2, and they were completely different games than Fallout 3. They were good, but they were different. Just accept that the industry is moving forward. There were a lot of things that were wrong with those games too. Even some of the designers that are now working on New Vegas say that in hindsight there are a lot of improvements they could have made to 1&2. Constructive comments be damned if they don't mean anything. These threads have already been done 5 times over, and the only things that have really changed are the personal attacks.

Since I've already had to edit out flames and flamebait so early in this thread and it reads more like a long list of complaints about FO3 and a compaaitive study of it to the first two games (which if we allowed it would belong in another section) and there has been no offer of a vehicle of improvement it is closed as flamebait.
