Freaking Brotherhood

Post » Sun Feb 06, 2011 6:26 pm

I'm currently stuck in the storyline, I really want to ally with the brotherhood, I've done all their quests (changed their leader and killed the graffs) and if I talk to any of the named characters, they don't offer me anything.

What gives?

deja vu?

You should be able to speak to Hardin and become inducted into the BoS; if that fails and he gives you the line "we need a few days to lift the lockdown" even after those days have elapsed, you've run into a common bug.

Make sure you wait the few days after speaking to Hardin.

Hardin won't ally with anyone, he's even more by the codex than McNamara. There's no way to get them to join any faction with Hardin in charge, with McNamara you can ally with the NCR if you play your cards well. You can spare them when working with Yes Man. Both House and the Legion require them to be killed.

You can still join them if Hardin's in charge I think? He should be talking to you if you've done the Van Graffs quest...

As above said, there's a common bug where the change never happens with Hardin. It may be a workaround to go see Colonel Moore at Hoover Dam and talk BoS with her (it worked for one of my playthroughs) but that's the only one I've heard of...

if you're with Yes Man you can still kind of ''use'' the BoS, by proceeding far enough in the For The Republic quest, and reporting to Yes Man that you allied the BoS with the NCR

but if you replaced the elder with Hardin you're screwed..

There is absolutely NO way to ally them with the NCR if you put hardin in as the leader. He believes the brotherhood is as strong as ever. You MUST have McNamara as the elder if you wish to ally them with the NCR. Unfortunatly you must blow them up :(

Unfortunatly you cannot join Yes man and the NCR together. I prefer the NCR anyways ;)

My order of endings:
NCR
Yes Man
House
Legion.

Mine goes NCR, House, Yes Man, Legion; the utter anarchy that apparently results with Yes Man is just silly. The player in Vegas would rule with just as much of an iron fist as House did.

The only part I liked about the yes man ending is that goodsprings and primm prospered. The anarchy is kinda dumb and it's like I,Robot with just a bunch of robots ruling you.

You can become a member, but this discussion is about allying the Brotherhood to the NCR or Yes Man.

Kinda off topic:
The order of my endings:
NCR
Legion
Yes Man
Yes Man
Yes Man
NCR

My favorite endings from best to worst:
Yes Man (Suits my character, he kills, steals, and destroys cities. (Except Vegas)
Legion
NCR
House (Never did house's quests)

On topic:
You can join the BoS when you do the last quest for either McNamara or Hardin, just wait a few days.
You can make a peace treaty between the BoS and NCR when McNamara is elder.

Looking at the Wiki, it suggests I get NCR infamy if I get the BoS to sign the peace treaty. I don't want to lose any standing with the NCR in this play through. But if I take out the BoS, I lose Veronica. What's the deal?

They need the BoS's help and they know it.....they just don't like it very much. If you forge a alliance between the BoS and NCR, you get a little NCR infamy....probably because Col. Moore really had her heart set on the BoS being blown up. If you've been doing all thier quests it won't bring you down from Idolized if that is what you are worried about.

As above said, Moore wants to see them gone, they are enemies of the NCR after all and you were given orders to kill them. You can facilitate a peaceful arrangement but it's going against their orders (to them you're simply a highly skilled civilian contractor). The karma drop is not enough to drop you a level, assuming you've done nothing else to annoy them (even something small may be enough to drop it)

As for Veronica, well, you did just kill her family and friends, even if she grew apart from them she still loves them, murdering them all would make her pretty angry. I think it is possible for her to remain a companion IF you convince her to join the FotA during her quests, she gives you a last warning and is pretty peeved but doesn't leave...

so i get the hell out of there and they come after me...
not much later veronica says something and leaves with some badass stuff :cryvaultboy:
so if you befreind the NCR and BoS...

I've done every NCR quest in the game, usually surpassing the Call of Duty (like saving hostages).

If NCR gets all pissy when I ask the Brotherhood to join, [censored] 'em.

The instant they realized you're in control of a giant army of robots, they'd put one in your head and proceed to take the Yes-Man hostage. The BoS aren't nice. They're nothing like Lyon's squad in DC. They will kill you and take your tech without thinking twice.

When I'm sent by Colonel Moore to eliminate the BOS, I tell Elder McNamara the NCR wants them destroyed. This is when Elder McNamara suggests an alliance. I go back to the Colonel and tell her the BOS will help NCR and I get NCR Infamy. This is my only NCR infamy ever and I'm still Idolized after doing it because I had built up so many points of good will before that. I do it every time. My entire path was helping NCR so it didn't matter. It was great seeing all the BOS helping at the Battle for the Dam. :)

See the chart on this page; I'm guessing the Infamy gained from allying BOS/NCR is 11 or less:
