Hardest Part of F:NV

Post » Sun Feb 13, 2011 11:26 pm

A lot of people know this: Fallout 3 went to easy mode after you got decent guns and high levels.

With F:NV, i find with damage threshold, and all the other elements in it, it has become a lot harder.

I was vilified with caesars legion and decided to go to the cove to do the wild card : you and what army. Basically I tried to kill caesar in his tent. It was not easy, I ended up using all my stimpacs and retried a lot.

Getting to the point, do you guys find FNV harder than F3? Also list some oof your hardest experiences

I had my first run-in with a pack of deathclaws today. That turned very ugly, very quickly.

Yeah, it's definitely harder.

Way harder, and a lot tougher choices about who to side with and building your character.

And it’s not like simply raising the difficulty setting in FO3, I know what I’m doing and my guys getting pretty tough, but some enemies just stay dangerous no matter how lvl’d you are.

I kinda dig it.

Not knowing anything about the starting area and going north within the first 20 minutes.
Those dozen Giant Radscorpions had me screaming like a japanese catholic shoolgirl as I tried to outrun them. O_o
Oh, and assassinating a certain someone someone for the Legion.
That place was just covered with Desert Rangers...
Had to peek-a-boo shoot them for a good 20 minutes.

It's harder, but a lot of it is artificial difficulty.

Coming from Fallout 1, 2, and 3 - imagine my surprise when Guns have nowhere near the power they have in the past. VATS "alterations" make it near useless. The pack tactics practically everything uses.

On the other hand, put any points in melee or unarmed and the game becomes a breeze.

As far as the hardest, I'll throw another nod toward Caesar's Legion's teleporting, super-speedy, armored like a tank assassins.

Level 2 and I got beat by rad scorpions all while just exploring around.

Level is a bit higher and I get beat by a group of deathclaws in a mill area.

So yeah, New Vegas is harder.

I was just climbing up a certain hill, fighting the odd nightkin and super mutant master, when Cass goes active and runs around a building. I chase her, and go around the corner just in time to see her swatted down by a deathclaw. I draw my anti-materiel rifle and have time for one headshot on it (which only damages a third of its health), and it kills me in two swats. I'm in combat armor, and 24th level!

More difficult, for sure, and I love it.

Spoiler
I used a stealth boy to get into Ceasar's tent, and killed him with my sniper rifle. That was easy. Killing all his Praetorians, and then getting out of the camp alive... yeah, not so easy.

Another tough one was Cottonwood Cove at 7th or 8th level, and fighting well over a dozen of Caesar's finest.

But the hardest so far was Vault 34. Brutal.

Assassinating Caesar.
Jesus Christ, I literally had my skull pounded into the wall by all of his "Body guards."
It took me a great deal to kill him as my weapons were weak and I spent half the time running around the area so he wouldn't punch me.

For me it was that nightstalker cave , getting eggs for Red Lucy. I play on vh/hc and had to mine like half of the cavern . I can hunt Deathclaws with shotgun but the Legendary Nightstalker plus 6 or 7 nightstalkers was scary.

Yeah, a lot harder. I found myself getting screwed over by random encounters a lot more than I did actual stuff in the quest line. They've upped the difficulty in both, though. I'm still playing on normal and this game gets extremely hard at parts.
