Best build for hardcoe Mode

Post » Tue Feb 22, 2011 12:30 am

I'm just wondering what is the best character build for hardcoe mode? Is there a way to do it that makes it easier?

hardcoe isn't that different from normal. Having a high Survival is pretty good for not having to haul as much food and water with you, and for the Rad Child perk.
You'll have to focus a bit more on damage mitigation than healing through stimpacks, so the Toughness perks, Med-X and good armor will go a long way.

I'd advise against going with a stealth sniper character as it'll bore you to tears and won't give you the "true" hardcoe experience ^^

I think you might actually be able to beat the game before your sleep meter fills to your death, the MQ is so short.. But a bit higher strength because of ammo weight, a bit different tactic, as stimps don't heal instantly. Nothing else really, basically the same, but a bit slower paced.

People play with hardcoe Mode not on?

Oh, it's pretty easy once you get beyond the idea of not carrying around 10,000 rounds of ammo everywhere. It's more like 500 rounds total between all your weapons.

Really if you have experience with the areas and an understanding of the rules ( DT, DAM, DPS, RAD, PI.. etc ).
It is no more of a challange than a soft core? run through.
The only extra difficulty is if you self gimp yourself more than you normally would.

The one truely real aspect is carrying around extra weight from ammo, this is great if it was not hindered by the bizzare clothing weights in game.
Luckily I can wave my magic wand use the GECK to change that annoyance, as I'm on pcp.
Even then you'll have plenty of ammo and spare weight even if carrying 3 - 5 guns plus ammo types.

Survival is utterly useless, you'll find plenty food and drink along the way.

don't listen to this man.
he clearly has never experienced by what margins high lvl crafted food will outclass stimpacks and purchased food itmes.
in addition, the higher the survival skill, the higher the effects from everything food-related consumed. that also counts for effects like extra DT or AP.
nuka cola quartz: +2 DT with a low surival skill, + 5DT @80
nuka cola victory: +10 AP at low skill, + 26AP @ 80, just to give you a glimpse of the magnitude
survival is an AWESOME skill in HC mode. make sure to have it at 75 in the later stages of the game.

I created an unarmed/melee character to complete hardcoe mode. Ammo weight wasn't an issue. I raised my survival skill high enough to create Gecko steaks. I carried around 5 - 10 of those and the same amount of purified water to maintain my stats and restore health.

In my opinion, hardcoe mode is not harder, it's just another way to play the game.

Just going for the achievement?

Aim to get your modified Speech to 100, and make it a priority. Side with Yes Man, visit the tribes but don't do their quests, just tell Yes Man you want to ignore them all. Do whatever makes you happy until you get to the Legate, pass all the Speech challenges (and don't suggest he's a coward!) and then do the same for Oliver -- you must have Speech 100 (whether through booze, chems, or magazines) to do it. Mission accomplished.

Now you can go back to having fun on normal mode instead of monitoring H2O, limb injuries, and ammo weight in hardcoe mode.

Now that I think about it, the only other thing I have to add is: make sure you're keeping water around. That H2O meter rises at a [censored] ridiculous rate. Oh, and some Doctor's Bags. You will be amazed at how many times you end up with crippled limbs.

To make it faster, run by the power plant in the other side of the lake before the 188 to give you the fast travel spot and just miss Primm and Nipton altogether, cut through to Novac.

Grab Veronica, no quest just a talk with her.

Make sure you focus on speed and speech, get the perks that make you a little harder to kill, you can literally just run through the last battle.

Of course, I'd recommend playing hardcoe mode, it wasn't too difficult to do once you got used to it and it makes softcoe feel weird....
