Why are you fighting fiends at level 11? :P Go to freeside and level up some, get some weapons and gear then come back at level 20, they'll be like bugs against a windssheild

Just get Boone.

Also, srsly? I always felt fiends tended to die like flies, even the 'boss' ones. Then again - I had Boone.

Just one, but in primm (or nipton, can't remember) you can get a non-humaniod :) I would go for veronica and hide behind something while she punches their heads off. Not joking.

You can keep Rex and get a human companion, as he's a non-humanoid.

Although I'm not fond of him either.

On my first playthrough the fiends around McCarran were like a boss fight, mainly becaue i was trying to take them on with a service rifle.
If you're a Guns character get something more substantional, like a hunting rifle and you'll be good to go. Also get a companion if you're not playing hardcoe.

Yep, I think you should go Veronica and E-DE or boone instead of veronica.

As long as you want to take all the challenge out of the game, of course :whistling:

Lol, joke, it's still fun with them. Boone did kill two deathclaws chasing me, though, at lvl 15. I was so sure I was dead.

When I do reach McCarren, I am normally just reaching lvl 5. So I understand how you feel. But there are ways to take them down. My preferred way happens to be a 10mm/Cowboy Repeater, sneak attacking and taking them out one at a time. Works for me there. I do this without any companions, consistently through all my 3 playthroughs.

Try being sneaky in Fiend territory. See them first.
Remember that Fiends tend to travel in groups of 3 or 4; at least one will stay at a distance shooting while the others will close on you. If you can, take out the shooter.
Fiend territory is full of ruins and other cover. Use it. When you encounter a pack retreat behind cover and wait (watch your back). They will run to your position; kill them at close range when they come around the corner.
Or, throw a mine right around the corner and retreat a bit.
Whatever you do, don't just stand there and hope to whittle them down. Good rule of thumb -- pretend it hurts to be shot, so don't get shot.

You didn't say what armour you're using, what your total DT is, or what types of weapons you use, and how powerful they are, which all would help to know in sorting out how difficult it would be for you to kill fiends. Those things are more important (or to the point) than your level all-in-all. Anyhow, you should use your skill points in whatever weaponry type you use when you level up, but that's basic-basic.

Currently I play with a level 7 charachter, use a 44 magnum and a Cowboy repeater, plus have a DT around 15 or so with a combat armour and a nice looking motorcycle helmet of sorts, and it works ok, particularly if I manage to snipe one or two of them in sneak mode (while being hidden), and then cover behind a wall or something to blast out the brains of the last ones with my 44 when they come to attack me. :celebrate:

By the way, if you have trouble with the fiends, and want a little help, here's a little thing I tend to do occasionally (which only works if you're neutral or friendly with the NCR):

Check out the areas around El Rey Motel, Camp McCarran and The Basincreek Building, carry your gun holstered (or a light gun, not a heavy one), scout for fiends, and once you've found them (or they've found you), shoot at them and/or make them follow you, run towards the closest NCR-soldiers and they will initiate combat (unless there's only one hurt one, who might run for cover the damn coward) with the fiends...personally it has happened that my charachter have hidden behind the NCR soldier until he (or she) has killed the fiends, or the other way around, which anyhow leaves me with one or two wounded fiends and a lot of loot...caps, caps, caps!! It's a good way to make caps without experience, in case you want to postpone leveling up....but now I'm digressing.

It sounds like you're a bit under-equipped, or lack your appropriate weapons skill. We could use some info on those things (weapons, armor, weapon skills).

I think of Fiends as low level monsters, though the boss Fiends can be real threats, especially at close range . . . and they will close the range. The advice to snipe is of mixed value. It works with the early outdoor ones, but it gets exciting when you meet bunches of them inside buildings. At that point companions provide both additional firepower and also distractions (meaning attacks on them aren't attacks on you.)

Fiends breed like cockroaches, too. Go away for three days and most of them respawn. Soon they won't be much challenge. I have a collection of heads in a dumpster outside Vault 3 (OK, it's a collection of helmets, the heads started to smell). I'm tempted to dump them all on the ramp there, but having over 100 helmets on the ground might cause nasty lag.

There are very few indoor Fiend encounters.

Generally speaking, any outdoors Fiend encounter should go as follows: stay at range, sneak and snipe. A sneak critical with a Varmint rifle to the head does the trick 99% of the time; with Ratslayer or a sniper rifle, 100% of the time.

Indoors, use shotguns or SMGs. Even a 10mm pistol will do the job if you keep your cool and aim for the head.
