How hard is it to be bad?

Post » Sun Feb 27, 2011 3:25 pm

I started out on Neutral and I've been doing bad things ever since, stealing, killing townsfolk and now I have even resorted to eating people and yet I'm still on neutral. I've stolen near 50 things, I've stealthily killed 5 towns folk each from different places and recieved bad karma from all of them and I've eaten 20 human corpses and I'm still neutral, is this a bug or can you not be bad anymore??? :brokencomputer: thing may be broken

Yeah the karma system don't make much sense, how do you see what your karma is? I can only find reputation with factions.

Im on xbox and I look at my reputation and then press X that lets me see my karma, so If you look at your reputation and then look at the top right corner it shoudl say
"General (press...)

I feel like it's hard to get negative karma too. On my melee character I was neutral, then decided to just kill everyone in the Crimson Caravan compound since they didn't sell anything I wanted in order to sell their equipment in Novac for caps. After getting the negative karma message from killing well over 15 people, as well as looting all the footlockers, desks, etc, my karma was still neutral. It seems almost impossible to get negative karma in this game without being unnecessarily evil. I mean I killed a ton of NCR troopers in their sleep so I could kill some civilians without any resistance, and I'm STILL neutral. It seems like the only way to have evil karma is to do the missions that give you bad karma for completing them, while getting good karma is as easy as simply NOT murdering people.

Don't worry about karma unless it actually affects something.

Thats my advice.

I just generally want bad karma so I can be the bad guy in a game, I think my best bet is going to be find the town I dislike the most, find a shop with most of its merchandise on display and rob the lot.

Yeah, but if you're trying to RP a little to make your character an evil person, it just feels weird knowing every character in the game is saying "He's just misunderstood." behind your back after you murdered their family in front of them.

I actually like how difficult it is to be "evil" in this game. It seems like morality is relative to the Fallout world in this game, as opposed to our world. You might steal, but in a world where what you steal can be the deciding factor between life and death, theft is small potatoes.

I attempted to be as evil as possible in my game, and after three hours or so of playng ( I outright slaughtered everyone in Goodsprings for God's sake) my karma was "Good"

This kinda annoys me as evil karma unlocks some evil sides of quests like Beyond the Beef.

Haha, I'm actually glad to hear this. I try to be good as far as quests and decisions go, but I do steal a lot, so I was worried that would set me back. Guess not :D

Do they respawn once you have killed them? They did not in FO3 I learnt this the hard way.

Its not that hard to get bad karma just steal stuff and kill NCR morons (Although if you do start killing random NCR soldiers expect a negative reaction from NCR). I have no problem keeping my karma at Neutral or evil because I steal from everybody. :celebration:

I found that it was easy to become evil. I have choose a good path for every quest and haven't murdered anyone but I steal everything in site and that continues to lower my Karma to evil.

Really? I find this sort of hard to believe as I've killed NCR troops every chance I got so I could sell their armor and weapons for caps, I've killed the traveling merchants that never sell items I want and usually have low caps so they're useless to me, I sided with the Powder Gangers at Goodspring, I've stolen so many things from shops it's ridiculous, and yet I'm "Neutral." Hell, I even killed everyone in the Atomic Wrangler and stolen every item that wasn't nailed down just to see if I could lower my karma, and it still said I was neutral. The most I've seen my karma lowering was when it went from good to neutral.

Hoping to get bad karma for killing the Van Graffs is like hoping to win immediately with a 9mm and 25 Deathclaw charging at you.

Oh yeah, the Van Graffs are shady SOBs. Do a few quests for them, and you'll find out right away.
