Sorry if I'm being stupid but ever since I added the CF frame to my gatling laser to reduce it's weight,equipping it increases my current carried weight by 9. It shows the correct weight in the item descrption, but the equipped weight increase effectively negates the mod.

I'm realised that I only have 7 (rather than the required 8) strength for the gun, but going back to earlier saves before I added the CF frame when I had even less strength didn't cause this weird weight gain.

Any ideas?

take some psycho or something to get that strength req up. if it still does it you're [censored]

I tried that and it still happens. I guess I'm the latter.

I wonder if this is a bug everyone is having or just some random hiccup in my game. I've certainly not seen it mentioned anywhere else.

Edit: Ah, I checked around and I see this bug is know. I'm glad it's not just me and there's a chance this will be fixed.

Maybe the original gatling didn't have the weight gain is because it's already added to it based on your strength being 1 less? Try easting a brahmin steak or a buffout to see if the weight on the gatling changes. Sounds like fun to uncover these things.

I did, and it doesn't make any difference. As far as I know, having insufficient strength for a weapon does not incur a weight penalty when it's equipped. I'm pretty sure this is a bug, I recently saw it was mentioned on the bug report thread.
