New Vegas Clinic implants

Post » Wed Mar 02, 2011 5:41 am

Does anyone buy the NV clinic implants that enhances the SPECIAL points? I'd like to, but somehow I just can't
roleplay my character getting implants to be made more intelligent etc., somehow it just feels like cheating. What
do you think about this, how do you roleplay and do you use them or not? Thanks!

I never get the intelligent implant, my starting intelligence is my max intelligence. You can get plenty of skill points in 30 levels with five or six intelligence and as skill points.
Most everyone however does get implants, strength, agility, endurance, luck and dermal are my five favorites.

Considering how much the implants cost, the Followers' slide-show ending should say "After royally milking the Courier, the Followers of the Apocalypse paid for the relief effort twice over and still had enough loose change to go on a month long bender. They were never heard from in the Mojave again."

I treated them like the bobbleheads from F3. I didn't want to spend perks just to raise skills, so I spent caps.

I'd be happier to use them if some npc's had them as well.

They're far less cheating and much more immersive than stupid bobbleheads in FO3. Although sometimes it's hard to justify an implant improving specific attribute. Like what is charisma implant? Boobjob?

According to Fallout Science!, the charisma implant makes the part in your brains that emphatizes with people better, or something like that.. Oh, and the luck implant puts a calculater in your skull :)

Since you have to pay for the Implants, and the ones you can get are limited, it is not cheating to acquire them.

It would be cheating if you could keep buying them without limits.

Roleplaying my main character, the only implant I buy is the perception one. She's sick of wearing glasses and wants to wear sunglasses instead so she gets the perception implant. Some of the implants though, skin cells being bolstered with iron, or wounds closing before your eyes. Good thing the enclave or bos didn't have this type of technology. Still it does allow a person to roleplay a cyborg.

It's not cheating. They were put in the game for you to buy. You buy them or you don't. But if you DO buy them, it most certainly is NOT cheating.

Just sayin'

I sort of agree with Gelmir but it's not exactly cheating. I find no matter how I start my character, assuming I don't take an attribute down to 1, they always end up pretty strong in all aspects and essentially the same.

I know, it's just that I'd like to use them, but roleplaying-wise I just can't find a way to make it work for me.

You can get the number which corresponds to your current level of Endurance. So if I had 6 END, I could get 6 implants. And the END implant doesn't allow you to get more.

Previous Fallouts had ways to increase SPECIAL, so i don't see why this wouldn't be legit.

EDIT: Even if you consider it cheap, if it's an intended game mechanic you can't call it cheating.

Heh too true. I never really bother spending that much on the implants anyway, much more useful to use the caps on a good gun or more ammo from the gun runners

Implants are way cheap. IMO all the special ones should cost as much as the regen one.

Especially since the regenerative implant svckS. Seriously the most useless of any of the implants, all the others have legit uses but the regenerating implant is useless.

I would have to disagree. The Regeneration implant is good because it works even when fast travelling. So if say you are injured during a fight near goodsprings, you can fast travel to to the gun runners and you will have regenerated alot of health in short amount of real time. This can help you save on stimpacks.

Cybernetic implants have been mainstay of sci-fi since the genre has existed. I have no idea what you mean by you can't get it to "Work" for RP.

You do realize it's way in the future, ya?

Of course you have the right to your opinion but I think you'd be hard pressed to find many people that share that particular opinion. IMO the regenerative implant is useless because it works so slowly that if you're in hardcoe you're better off buying food or stims and if you're not then a bed will refill your health instantly. When you can improve your attributes and make yourself more damage resistant using the other implants, 1hp per 5 seconds is pretty worthless.
