Quest objective/completion boxes not getting filled in

Post » Wed Mar 02, 2011 3:35 am

Tried to search this one out to no avail, and it drives me crazy.

What I'm talking about: With some quests (e.g., Eyesight to the Blind, The Moon Comes Over the Tower, ED-E My Love, and others), the quest/objective completion boxes don't get filled in even though the quest/objective is completed/met - typically it is the last stage of the quest or the final objective prior to completion.
Any ideas why this is?

And when I try to manually complete the quest (with setstage commands and the like (I play on PC)), it still doesn't fix the issue. I mean, I know I finished the quest, and it is faded out in the Quest section of my Data menu, so the game knows I finished the quest, but the it is still driving me nuts - it ruins that perfectionist aesthetic, y'know?
Any ideas about a fix? Like, is there a journal entry console command I should be using instead of a setstage command?

I guess I'm just looking for some feedback.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

This isn't going to help much but I had similar experiences with quests and those sound familiar. It was usually due to some little thing not being done such as talking to someone and in one case avoiding a fight by ignoring someone. My advice is not to worry about it, keep going and hopefully they'll resolve themselves.

You're probably right. I mean, I have played through a coupla times (and a few partial playthroughs) and it is the same quests each time, so it is either some minor detail I'm missing, or there is something that isn't scripted (?) correctly or such, that the game just doesn't bubble in the box.

I don't know what commands the game to fill in the box. If anyone knows how I can manually enter a command for such, it would greatly alleviate my frustration.

Thanks again.

Have you checked the wiki? I wouldn't normally recommend it, having rather spoilt F.NV by reading it to much but sometimes it's the only way. Plus if it's a bug it will usually say.

Sure. I'm a big fan of the wiki. There's no mention of my issue(s) as such, but what is plainly evident is that nearly every quest in the game has bugs - most of them are related to specific details of a quest not working. I could find no mention of the quest/objective completion boxes not getting filled in - at least for the quests I've looked into.

And hey, thanks again for the input/feedback.

I have also seen this and it usually happens with the last objective box because obsidian made it to where doing that specific objective completes the quest immediately so the game gets the command to update AND fishing the quest but the finish quest takes priority over the update the log command. It has NO Effect on the game it will always recognize that you have beat the quest even if you dont get all the things filled in.

Also, for some quests some of the objectives are mutually exclusive (such as deciding who you give ED-E to during his companion quest) and as such will never complete since you took another/the other route.

As @Somtaaw mentions, sometimes it just doesn't update the objective's status in the log when the quest is completed, usually as a result of a script not having the appropriate command and/or flag for some reason.
