My Character build..

Post » Thu Mar 03, 2011 2:27 am

Looking for some help with a character build. I would like to max out as many skills as i can, and have some decent perks too. I don't need to invest any into Barter, Speech, Explosives, Unarmed and Survival( if survival is mainly for hardcoe). Anyone out there that's good at crunching numbers able to help me?

Find as many as these as you can:
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_skill_books

Take the Educated perk as early as possible, followed by Comprehension. Don't use your skill books til you have Comprehension (adds an extra point).

Save your caps and give Usanagi a visit to boost your attributes, which in turn boost your skills. In character creation put plenty of points in INT.

Get Dead Money (more skill books and level cap of 35).

I don't need to invest any into Speech

Really? You're going to neglect speech, of all things?

Anyways, in my current playthrough i maxed out barter, energy weapons, guns, lockpick, medicine, repair, science, sneak, speech and i have 60 or so in explosives, and i didn't even use every book.

Kind of takes out the fun of character specialization if you ask me, but if you want to do it, get 9 int and the int implant as soon as you can, get at least 9 luck (implant and intense training), figure out which SPECIAL attribute affects which skills, take Educated, Comprehension and Tag!, and track down the skill books.

Taking Good Natured would help too, but that's assuming you have more important "peaceful" skills than combat ones.

I know speech can be fun, This is my second play thru and i just want a "power build" if you want to call it that. My first play thru Barter and Speech i got to 80s and then maxed with books. :)

The way i see it, Speech is mandatory, there are so many speech checks, it feels like i'd miss out on half the game without them.
Unless you're planning to just kill everything i guess :P

well, with one playthrough you only get 15 perks (17 with DM), there's no way you can use each weapon to its full potential with ''only'' 17 perks

You can do fine without Barter; I usually invest into Barter when I have nothing else to invest into, and mostly for the purpose of getting Pack Rat. Caps are not that hard to come by and most Barter checks in conversations can be bypassed. In most cases you can choose between a Barter check and a Speech check.

You'll need as high IN as possible, EN of 7 at least for maximum S.P.E.C.I.A.L implants. Take combat skills to 100, keep everything else at 80 WITH all skillbooks. Speech, Medicine and Science can be left at 70 if you obtain Naughty Nightwear and Followers' Lab Coat. Perks wise, get Educated, Comprehension, and use Tag! only if you see that despite all the above you're still coming up short somewhere.
