Gobi Scout Rifle vs Sniper rifle

Yes, I like making topics comparing weapons. .

One would think that the Gobi would be far superior as a Very Hard lock is usually a more ardous achievement than to simply earn 4-5k caps and throw them at good 'ol mister Vendortron. First glance at the stats suggests the two are actually rather similiar and one isn't necessarily going all god-mode on the other. Again, personal taste and preference play their parts.

Personally, I prefer the Sniper rifle, simply because I'm a fool for the higher damage option and I can deal with the maintenance it requires as I reserve is for more testing foes.

Great, I'm screwed for getting it then. My Lockpick is too low even augmented with Party Time Mentats and Locksmiths Companion to crack Very Hard locks... Is there a key for that thing? I've been very lucky with getting keys to the cool stuff in FONV.

No key. The minimum lockpick level to reach Very Hard locks is pretty much 75. Vault 3 jumpsuit+Comprehension+Locksmith's Reader.

Don't forget the mods you can put on a sniper rifle. No modding allowed on the Gobi.

Doesn't the Vault 19 Utility Jumpsuit give +2 lockpick? Crap, I'm still short... Help me out here...

Party Time Mentats=+2 INT/PER/ +2 Lockpick
Vault 19 Utility Jumpsuit: +2 Lockpick
Took Comprehension
Found all 4 copies of Tumblers Today=+16 with Comprehension
Augmented Lockpick=68
Locksmith's Companion=+20 Lockpick with Comprehension

=CRAP, still 8 points short bc Very Hard is 100...

Vault 3 Utility Jumpsuit gives +5 Lockpick

Sniper rifle for the suppressor.

And that. Plus it looks so much better next to the Chinese Stealth Armor.

Stock? Hmm... the Gobi, just because it looks badass. But, I'd rather have a suppressed Sniper Rifle.

@TRUSTYtheHERO I don't think so. Why would it?

No, just noise and flash. The wiki says "it also appears to aid in the use of Stealth Criticals." Don't know what that means.

A suppressor would reduce damage because you would have to use subsonic rounds to keep your shots quiet. The game doesn't make that distinction though so it doesn't reduce damage.

Well, with the mod. that allows for unique weapons to become modded like un-unique weapons (i.e. Maria w/ extended clips, scope, Gobi with silencer, etc.) I do prefer my silenced Gobi. However, w/o the mod., I'd still prefer the Gobi as the lower AP cost and faster rate of fire (along with an extremely slow decomposition rate combined with Raul's 25% slow-down perk), provide for an equally powerful gun. Plus, it comes with one extra bullet. Yay-

It's really no contest. Sniper Rifle with both Mods installed and loaded with JSP ammo is the way to go. The Gobi looks cool and has a tiny DPS advantage, but with no suppressor mod there is no good reason to pick it over the sniper rifle. It's even 1.5 Wg heavier.

I prefer the look of the Gobi Scout Rifle but I use the normal Sniper Rifle because of the Carbon Fiber and Suppressor modifications.

I prefer the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Gobi_Campaign_Scout_Rifle. I thought it did knock down damage but it may have been the Anti-Material gun I was using at the time.

Sniper is normally better that gobi ..... Unless you just happen to be able to queue just one more shot in VATS on the gobi and you know you are going to an enclosed place.

The gobi is better for close range fighting with a sniper rifle than a plain sniper rifle is, but worse at sneaking and sniping stuff from afar.

Since there's a dozen better weapons than a sniper rifle for fighting with stuff close, seems to me the plain sniper rifle with a suppressor attached wins out all around.

Unsilenced Gobi, your targets all line up for headshots when hearing their friend get capped. Lower weight, higher HP and higher DPS for when the [censored] hits the fan. A good weapon for us hardcoe players.

The advantage to the Gobi is the enhanced durability. I put about 300 shots through that thing (hand loads, mind you) before it dropped below the max damage threshold.

Nothing beats the AM rifle, tho. :D

Yeah, I think I've pretty much made my decision:

Boxstandard Sniper rifle with supressor and carbon fibre modifications is the superior weapon (imo). Just got the Gobi a few hours ago, approximated and compared the weapons' efficiency versus deathclaws and I think it's safe to say, excluding personal factors - the stock rifle wins.
