Weapons in a post nuclear World

Post » Sat Mar 05, 2011 11:33 pm

I was thinking about the game when i came across ceasars Legion. I had worked with the ncr so they don't like me. One of them threw a spear at me and that got me thinking. In a post-nuclear world or post-post-nuclear world woudnt ammo be a little more scarce. Who makes the guns and ammo, How have the gun not gotten rusted or destroyed over the years. Wouldn't people be using more weapons like spears or even bows and such primitive weapons. Or at least they should have guns that those gun runners make. iv'e never seen any factory were they actually make ammo. I was wondering if you guys now any info about how there has been ammo and guns in the condition they were in before the war like 200 years ago and or why arent there more primitive weapons around.

yeah, but since this is a game and not real life. we dont have to think about silly things such as logic.

It's been well established that reloading ammunition is somewhat of a cottage industry in the Fallout world. Add to that the fact that there are dedicated groups such as the Gun Runners manufacturing and refurbishing weapons using pre-war specs and selling them in bulk and it's not so hard to believe after all. It's all there in the game.

Because some people just don't want to risk their lives scavenging, Goodsprings is an example of this. There are various military outposts, and with the NCR, I'm sure they have their own ammunition facilities. The Gun Runners make and sell their own weapons and ammunition, and lastly, it's a game.

Well, sydney's father (in fo3) made ammo for living, and gun runners make weapons. Besides, would you want to play this with only bows and spears? Imagine the "wtf beth oblivoin clone" whine here.

There would be other places like the Pitt where old pre-war factories have been started up again, im thinking the NCR properly has a few of them.

The game aspect is something oyu have ot rmember....that Mac and Cheese is not healthly considering it was made over 200 years ago.....

Yeah, let's not think about logic. That opens up too many cans of worms.
i.e. The clocks have ALL stopped at the EXACT same time. This would indicate attacks on the US staged 1 hour apart, and with unique blast waves that can cause all of the clocks to magically stop at the same time even though they all wouldn't have been set at the same time.

How have cigarettes survived that long? Are they still making them? Do that many people really throw unopened packs/cartons in the trash?
Do people really throw away unopened sodas and would they still be good 200+ years later?
Can you really repair 1 gun using the parts from 6+ other identical guns?
Can you really heal and repair broken limbs by sleeping 1 hour?
...and the list goes on...

Consider this: Before the Great War in Fallout, the American government was at war with the Chinese government in somewhere as close as Alaska. The war could have turned into WW3 at any moment. I can guarantee they would have been pumping out a hell of a lot of guns and ammo, and with China right on their doorstep, there would be a lot inside America.

Plus, Wastelanders are certainly capable of making their own guns/ammo, as shown with the gun runners.

The Gun Runners had already set up shot and were making good weapons in Fallout 1, only 70 years after the bombs dropped.

That means they've been in business for over 120 years at this point. They've probably pumped out a LOT of ammo by now.

This. It's fun to think about things like this, but when it goes to "omg beth stupid FFS" stuff then you have to stop.

About the cigarettes, maybe wastelanders do those? They grow tobacco themselves and roll those, easy.

About the food. Well, in fallout world they probably invented some super-duper thing that keeps the food eatable for 200 years. They have fuel that last 100 years in power armor, so some food stuff should not be so hard.

About the other stuff, SCIENCE!
