Dumb people dialogue

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:05 am

Have you noticed that with some character interactions, you have alternate choices of dialogue if your Intelligence is low? Some examples:

USANAGI: "We also sell a number of implants."
YOU: "You sell plants, too?"
USANAGI: "Uhhh... no. IMPLANTS... for you, I recommend the Intelligence implant."

OR

RANGER MILO: "This road's closed until we dislodge some Legion snakes out of Nelson."
YO: "Snakes are small. Can't you kill them with your gun or something?"
RANGER MILO: "You're one of those 'special' folks, aren't you?"

Have any of you noticed any other alternative dialogue choices, available only if your character has the IQ of a radish? Or other stat-influenced dialogue choices?

There are a few other people, I know the Followers of the Apocalypse scientist at Helios One has a few dialogue lines for low int characters as well.

Indeed, if I recall correctly Ignatio Rivas (I think that's his name) at Helios One asks you if you are a bringer of war or peace. I believe you can respond with "Warm.", "Pizza.", and "Huh?".

Edit: You also have some dumb-dialogue with Arcade Gannon. You have to convince him to join you, and if you're dumb enough (I believe Int 3 or lower) he'll be convinced you're in need of some help and he'll join you.

Yeah, that's why I gave this character such a low Intelligence score. She pretty much left Goodsprings and made her way to New Vegas without firing a shot or levelling up. Walked into the Fort and got Arcade to follow her, no problem.

EDIT: I was disappointed by the dialogue choices you had with Ignacio... I mean, I figure that to function as a courier, a person needs to have at least the mental capacity of an 8-year-old (in other words, an IQ of about 50 or 60). I figure that a person with an INT of 5 has an average intelligence (IQ=100), plus or minus 12 for each point above or below. Hence, a person with an INT of 1 would clock in a bit above 50, while an INT of 10 would put a person well into the genius range at 160. This would put my Courier at about 75, dense but not totally [censored]. But, some of the choices you had, about things like "juice" and "shinies" were the kind of words a preschool-age Teletubby addict would use.

Anyway, did you find any other cool dim-witted dialogue choices?

Low INT dialogue is fun, but I prefer to out smart people so they are saying -yea- but their mind is going -i don't know what any of those words mean- and their facial expression is

10 INT would actually put the your characters IQ near to Steven Hawking's IQ, and Hawking IQ was appropriately 160, but when he fell down a flight of stairs at the Oxford Uni he temporarily lost his memory and he took the Mensa Test and scored between 200 - 250 so the player would be pretty damn smart with 10 INT

Along with the fact it's all for sarcastic humor value anyways. Something a little bit missing in the bleak 3.

It's too bad Obsidian didn't have time for more dialogue for low intelligence characters to speech related perks like terrifying presence. Along with a multitude of other things.

If the game didn't have voices for every character but just for two dozen then dumb dialogue could be implemented fully.
I'd rather do without voices and have a larger focus on dialogue text since it's easier to create.

So would I, but unfortunately I don't see that happening any time soon. :cryvaultboy:

That said, I suspect that full VA and well-done additional dialogues are not mutually exclusive. Whether or not a developer is willing (or able, if applicable) to expend the effort and/or resources to pull it off is debatable, however what there is of such text in F:NV shows that Obsidian is at least willing to try. Had they not been under such a tight timetable I suspect that such dialogue would have had a much greater presence, however I cannot offer any proof that this is the case.

Low INT terrifying presence - Get in that elevator or I'll, errrr, one minute let me tink... errr... errr... ooh I know I shove a chicken up your butt and put you back in the box thing I found you in - Quote scene from Dead Money DLC

This is not actually in the game, would jjst be funny if it was and this bit was the edit
