Daily Jobs

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:16 am

i had this idea after guarding the silver rush with simon.

does anyone else wish they had included a daily job system. like a little mini mission that you could do daily (or weekly in some cases) to help bring in the caps.

just a couple ideas for some jobs that would of been fun

Store Guard- (like for the silver rush) you stand outside of a store confiscate peoples weapons. making sure undesirables dont enter

Drug Dealer- you are given a definition of the person you are dealing too. look around the area and make sure you pick the right person (or someone might turn you in)

Caravan Guard- you walk with the caravan to its destination, protecting it from harm on the way there

Casino Bouncer-Like Store guard except you have to find the problems and handle them. only weapons given to you by the casino are permitted to be used while bouncing.

Courier- like caravan guard, but you are alone and there is a time limit.

yea i guess but dont know how it would work. I dont want to sit outside a door going through the same dialog of " Give me yhour gun" for and hour.

I like to keep my dailys in MMOs personally. But, because I am a hypocrite, I also wouldn't be opposed to having 5-10 of the same similar quests in a chain, like you mentioned. The problem I have is even if it's exactly the same quest, it's far more tolerable if it's in a different location. The dialog would be the biggest issue.

i was thinking a different scenario each time. with multiple ways to handle it. that would be the most simple and easy of the jobs.

on the tenth time a special event happens (maybe a group of people come and try to fight their way in) after the tenth mission you are given a special item or perk. (that would apply to every job. the special item after the 10th time thing, not the robbery thing)

after the tenth time the job kinda does a random thing. it would follow this format for all the jobs.

I kind of liked the Silver Rush job but it would have to be varied enough to stay interesting and there would have to be scripted events and advance time extra fast just like Silver Rush for the guard jobs. The drug dealer and caravan guard jobs seem okay but i absolutely HATE timed delivery missions :brokencomputer:

it wouldnt be strict.

it would be kinda like the other part of the Van Graff quest. where you have to deliver the package to the guy outside town.

there is a time limit, but its not really that stressful

I’m all for more content and RP stuff, so as long as it wasn’t shoved down our throats I’d be down.

I would feel so/so about daily jobs. Courier would be fun though.

Yeah it would be pretty cool to be like a Handyman too. You bring your own materials and bill em for costs and work. And have Speech/Barter options where you use big words to try and get more money (You know, like the mechanic did to your car last month?).

And they could even have some skill boosts as rewards. Like Handyman ups repair a point or two every 10 jobs. And Caravan guard ups guns/energy weapons (depending on the job requirements like the VGs with their Energy Weapons.) Bouncer ups melee/unarmed. So on and so forth.

The jobs could have Fame, Karmic, and skill requirements too. i.e. drug dealer negative karma, high melee/unarmed/Terrifying Presence. (That perk needs some more dialogues.) Handyman with high repair. Courier with high survival maybe, seeing how you might not be able to find towns for every night.

Nothing would make me happier than driving a forklift for four hours like Shenmue. (sarcasm)

There are plenty of job-like side quests in the game. I think instituting missions in the form of a "day job" can only detract from the fun. But that's just me, and the characters I tend to play, perhaps.

Well, they'd still be optional.

I understand the "daily job" title doesn't invoke enthusiasm from most but the caravan driver position in past games provided safety in numbers, more challenging encounters (Super Mutant/Centaur raids and general raiders), and a salary based on your performance. It also gave a new way to explore and find new places. I'll admit it isn't really necessary in the newer games, but I have fond memories and it would make the game a little more fun in my opinion. It would be pretty cool to bring back the floaters and wannamingos (i know mmm did this for fallout 3 but I'd rather see them implemented by the creators, no offense mart).

I would love to have it added. I loved doing all the side quests in Freeside that were essentially quick/daily jobs. I liked being the bounty hunter and collecting debts/killing traitors, and i thought the door guarding was pretty fun too for how short it was.

Nope. For one, I'm almost unable to move for all the caps I'm packing so I don't see the need, at least financially.

For two- what, there weren't enough little random errands already? Gawd, easily two-thirds of the time on my save is time spent running the kind of errands that would fall under your "daily job" heading. Any more of'em and they'd have to rename the game "Fallout: Sim McDonald's" and include a headset so you could ask Mr. House if he'd like fries with his McTakeover. :D

Basically they did include the system already. And while I liked it, don't get me wrong, enough already. Next person asks me to fetch their sister's teddy bear from the evil Deathclaw King or somesuch gets a high-velocity dose of lead poisoning. About the only thing missing was the old Fallout caravan guard job, but then in Fallout they actually had more than one caravan company too.
