Does anybody else find that the Mojave Wasteland isn't as big as the Capitol Wasteland?

It isn't. It's about ~20% smaller. The overall map size is the same but a lot of the map is covered with mountains. There are more locations, though.

In terms of map size, yes, but New Vegas seems to be bigger than FO3 in quests and overall content. Map size isn't everything.

Fallout New Vegas is better in my opinion. Everything is. The map may be smaller but it has more detail overall I think as opposed to the brown and bloom of the capital wasteland.

Yeah.... i get the feeling there's a LOT more content. but I kinda wish, for immersion, that there's a bigger map, more space between all the content.

Like others have said, there is less to explore and more to do. I do wish that they opened these areas up with generic desert landscaping with random spawns, though. The part just outside Mojave Outpost looks like it would be a great open desert area just to run around and kill creatures. It's fine without it though.

Another thing I found was that the locations weren't really that explorable. I liked how in Fallout 3 there were a lot of big building and forts to explore. Nevertheless, New Vegas is still a great game.

It's roughly the same size. The Pip Boy map in NV is a smaller scale than FO3. It may be slightly smaller but what evs. Close enough for rock n roll.

It's just the way the map is scaled if you go north of Bright Springs you will find a large cross memorial

There is a large open expanse there!

I think you'll get your wish (kinda).

The current used part of the map is just what they needed for NV. The western side is there for later DLC I suspect.

And that's not insinuating that they only released half a game and will put the rest in with DLC. Simply that they are planning ahead and leaving themselves plenty of room on the same map for when they do the DLC.

I'm sure they said in a recent podcast that there is roughly 25% more content in New Vegas than there is in the standard edition of Fallout 3.

Early on, the map seems tiny because you get railroaded south out of Goodsprings. However, at level 20, with 2 companions, it's really starting to open up because I can deal with most threats. The mountains in the NW are wonderful, if a bit linear. The western red rock canyons are better.

But there's still a lot of unused area around the borders of New Vegas. Areas that really need to be fleshed out with lots of little locations similar to how there were lots of little hidden spots around the edges of DC in Fallout 3.
