Can you come up with a logical explanation?

Ok, so the first time I go into the BoS bunker, i'v just learned how to properly used science (thanks to a kind gentleman who pointed out how to remove duds, etc on here) and I decided to hit EVERY terminal I ever saw. So, I hacked the one in the security office, and to my surprise, there is ACTUAL an option to turn ALL TURRETS on the the Brotherhood of Steel, or turn them onto anyone who is unauthorized.

So now I have a question for all of you. What purpose could the Brotherhood of possibly of had, to implement an option to exterminate the entire bunker of the brotherhood....

My only idea is for security to kill them if they decided they wanted to leave if they weren't allowed, and they needed a way to neutralize the few of them.. and everyone else... bad explanation lol.

What do you guys think?

Maybe it was a failsafe incase the leader (do they have a leader?) decided they were all corrupted and no longer pure?
Purge the heretics, the mutants, the unclean, etc etc..

Maybe. Maybe their fear of the outside world and anything that isnt them made them feel they had to install this just incase there was a mutiny from a few and they thought it would be easier and more dignified to obliterate all?

That seems pretty daft to me. But then the Brotherhood look at things in a different way to us..

I can't remember how the actual prompt looks but I could see it as a simple abstraction for the Courier actually hacking the system with his awesome Science powers.

It could've probably been worded differently then, () for example, but still.

I thought it was the same as the Helios One turrets and the turrets were there from Before the brotherhood arrived. In theory, as they've already been programmed to recognise the Brotherhood knights, scribes, and paladins, easier to reverse the targeting to Only attack them? even if the brotherhood set them up, it's pre-war tech rather than purpose-built from scrap By them.

So the question becomes, why did the pre-war US defenders make it possible? best answer I can think of is Spies, Traitors, and people who decided the Chinese Jumpsuit doesn't quite match up against Combat Armour.

If the bunker was taken over by enemies who proceeded to wear Brotherhood armor, someone could get in at the terminal and dispose of them.

I think that it is just hardwired into every turret control teminal ever kind off like a failsafe or something.

Well say that the courier (your character) Had the option to hack the turrets to attack the brotherhood so he had hacked it then the option was added. Something like that? Or as the first replier said, possibly a failsafe. Or maybe their leader is emo or something idk.

Good point. It actually definitely makes more sense if I think of it as "These aren't actual prompt options. This is just informing me what my 1337 hacking skills will cause".

I think you are turning off failsafe, so the turrets target anything that moves.

My scenerio is that when turrets are first made they have no idea who will buy them, so when a customer buys them they must be programed not to shoot the customer and who ever else the customer doesn t want to get shot.

When a player hacks in fo3 or nv you are just setting to default basically when you select what you are speaking of.

Turrets and landmines have magical powers in Fallout. They recognize you.

There probably isnt an option for that, you probably hack into the terminal controlling the turrets options. You could hack the turret to target anything thats silver/red (their armor/robe colour) therefore targeting the BoS. Simple as.

It's not an original BoS base. It's a united states military base. Later the enclave. Who's the enclave's enemy? BoS. Who don't have the best scientists.

i thought the same thing, why on earth would the bos have an option to kill themselves? but i like the explanation of the choice being a result of your science ability, so i'm going to go with that one. other turrets in fo3 and fnv have the option to reconfigure targeting parameters, so this would certainly follow along those lines. but i agree, the wording should have been different.
