VATS hit percentages

Post » Sat Mar 05, 2011 11:59 pm

It has been my experience that the % chance to hit the head in VATS is greater than the torso (I do not have the Sniper perk) and I am confused by this. It seems the torso should have a much greater percentage with the head being a high risk, high reward shot. I get results like head is 1% greater even when I'm facing the character straight on, all body parts exposed. Is this other player's experience also?

Uh no not really, maby when the enemies are 3 feet away from bending their heads forward trying to kiss my muzzleflash. But in other situations no.

I don't know what it is then, something is screwing with my torso percentage in VATS. I was actually just doing some more testing, and I go into vats I will see 95% for the torso at a nice medium range, maybe 60 for the head, 70 on the arms, everything seems fine. I go out of VATS and right back in and suddenly the torso has dropped to like 53% and is the hardest body part to hit...

VATS and combat in general is a little sketchy, it needs to be patched. Everything from some perks not seeming to work, to guns not firing after being reloaded etc.

V.A.T.S. takes into account cover/concealment and the body's contortion, keep that in mind... otherwise I don't know what to tell you.

Depends on creature and orientation. I sometimes notice it for humanoids, but mostly I notice this kind of thing on Cazadores and Cayotes, who are head forward creatures.

ehh i never use VATS anymore. with the new iron sights i see no use for it now, and now that sniper rifles are fixed i can actually shoot somebody with them from a considerable distance without VATS. i use it for cazadors, though. i HATE those things.

I guess a picture is worth a thousand words. I understand body positioning and such does matter, hence the one leg has a very low percentage because it is kind of blocked by the other leg. How can the head being higher percentage than the torso possibly be explained in this view though, the torso is viewed straight on clear as day. Again, no I do not have the Sniper perk.

She has a really big head?

Though I am thinking you probably did take the Sniper perk.

Can you explain why you have no tab where 75% weapon condition should be? Are you using mods?

Really? I think I would know what perks I took or not, but just so there is no confusion here is a screen cap of my perk list, as you can see... no Sniper.

Never noticed that before, the tick goes away for all weapons when I go into VATS mode. Actually, I have the custom UI installed, it is not an ESP, but just a redo of the User Interface textures... I don't see how that could possibly be screwing VATS up but I suppose I will disable and see if that fixes it but this was going on before that.
