How does the Lead Belly perk work?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:48 am

I thought the Lead Belly perk worked that when ever you ate or drank something, you get half the rads. So how come if I drink out of a sink, I still get the full 5 rads? So it is only good for food then? I have a feeling I have just wasted a perk now, and was better off taking something else. I guess this is another one of those differences from Fallout 3 to Fallout New Vegas.

So am I understanding this corretly then? I am wondering is I should have taken the comprehension perk instead. How do you guys like this perk?

"With the Lead Belly perk, you take 50% less radiation every time you drink from an irradiated water source. In Fallout: New Vegas, this benefit extends to all irradiated food and drink."

Was radiation higher than 5 before maybe? I don't know.

I'm not entirely sure that the amount of rads on screen ever changes. Check your Pip-Boy to see how many rads you've actually gained from drinking it.

Fairly sure it works by just reducing the duration of the radiation, but still displays the "tick" of 5. Have never taken that perk before though.

I believe it works like RAD-X. You still get the same amount of rads, but it moves up slower then normal

The Pip Boy displays the amount of Rads there is to be absorbed. How much you absorb is based on gear and chems and Perks.

At least that is how it should work.

I will keep my eye on this. I just started a new game, and the sinks are 5 rads. In Fallout 3, it would have said 3 rads. So next time I take a drink, I will see how much rad I have, take a drink and then look again after wards and see how much it went up by.

Thanks for the explanations everyone.

ya it shows how much rads are IN the water.. your rad resist and various other things will then change this number down.. oh and I beleive on top of that its stored as number in 10ths or even 100ths of a rad but only displayed in whole rads.

I just saw something so this has to be a bug. Again I am on the 360, made a new character, and when I got the lead belly perk I saw that the sink say 2 rads. I quit, and I started up today, and now it shows up as 5 rads. I was at 116 rads, I took a drink and now I am at 121 rads. So the lead belly perk is not working. I strongly suggest nobody take this perk or at least save your game before you get it because at least for me, it's not working.

It worked once in my game, now it's not working in the now. Maybe quitting the game, or quitting the game, turning the xbox off starting the next day to continue playing causes the bug. So I think as soon as you get the lead belly perk it works but once you quit and restart, the xbox doesn't load up the perk even thou it says you have it.

i think that it either is like Rad-x and makes you have slower radiation or you will take less rads for food and drinks.

I can say for certian now, it doesn't work like this. Again, I made sure, and I did see the rad reduction the first time, the sink being 5 instead of 2. But now the next day, it is back to 5. I even drank the water and only got +2 rads before, but now I am getting +5 rads, so there is no slowness in radation at all. Like I said, I had 116 rads, took a sip, now at 121. That is a +5 increase just like if I never had the lead belly perk at all.

So now it's a wasted perk. I don't feel like redoing everything now. :(. I don't even know if I have the saved game since I thought it was working, I went over it now. :sadvaultboy:

*edit* I did find a saved game. Now I have to redo a quest now. Since Lead Belly is broken at least for me, I might as well as take the toughness perk. Going to switch very easy and just redo everything now.

So this is how the game makes us redo things. LOL. Since we reload, I guess this is the 360's way of reloading the universe LOL.

Lead Belly didn't effect water sources for me either. I assumed it only worked on food items in NV.

Another bugged perk eh? Then again, who really takes lead belly, unless your role playing Divine?

Using rad suit or drugs, raising rad resistance will lower numbers shown on water source. If it was displaying 5 rads, it will display 3 with rad suit for example. So I assume perk should have same effect. If it does not, it might be bugged.

Erhm if i remember correctly it depends on what source you're drinking from. For instance drinking from a dirty toilet gives you much more rads than drinking from a sink.

Yes I can verify this 100% now. Before I wasn't paying attention, so I couldn't tell. So this time when I got it, I made shure I went to a water source, and before the perk it said, 5 rads. After the perk it said 2 rads. So I thought great, it was a fluke. A real life day later, after the xbox was turned off, and then booted on, loaded the game, went to the same water source and it is back to 5 again. So my guess is after the game is shut off, something happens and it reverts back to the way it was before.

So I would stay away from it. The reason I picked it because I was roll playing so I would use water sources in my game to heal or drink for dehydration.

If you imagine taking RAD-X it still says your getting 1 rad a second but your not your getting how ever much less so same applies for lead belly.

But that apply only to rad values below 1.0 per second.

I have had the lead belly perk. I was at 116 rads. So drinking from a sink, normally 5, it was 2 at one point for me, so when I drank from it, my rad went to 121 rads. So even if it's hidden, it's not working because I still got 5 rads from drinking just like before the lead belly perk.
