10 Luck

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 9:16 am

I know this point has been touched on before, but I just wanted to reiterate it again. Take 10 Luck on your next character!

I just sat down at a blackjack table in Gomorrah and got banned in one session. Walked away with over 9000 caps in winnings at level 7. I went from barely enough caps to get into New Vegas to making a visit to the Gun Runners for some serious hardware (Cowboy Repeater with long tube and custom action as well as a Service Rifle with upgraded springs).

Oh, and as a side note: Boone loves his new reinforced combat armor.

Well, yes, OK, but to be honest: Being able to buy all the fancy stuff at low character level would destroy the game a little bit for me. I prefer to have a feeling of progression. Sooner or later I will find the nice equipment anyways and I like finding and upgrading new weapons from time to time. If I could buy all this at the beginning it would be pretty boring to run around most of the game with the same stuff. This would destroy exploring the world.

I had 40000 caps by the end of my last playthrough, nothing to do with them, and 5 starting luck.
Winning at Blackjack isn't going to make the game for you.

yeah i did a 10 luck character and walked away from gommorah with 47,000 caps or more.

(thats more then the cap, but i got 3 oranges on the slot machine there, and that threw me from like 5,000 chips earned there to 46,000 chips earned.)

overall i made about 82,000 before i broke the bank at all the casinos.

it was fun while it lasted but i wish it had lasted longer.

note- if you have 10 luck and you play black jack, double down each time the first 2 cards equal 9 or more. you will almost always get something between 19-21

The service rifle is not all that powerful anyway. I would have spent my caps on something else. Love the cowboy repeater, but found that wayyyy before Vegas. Also my luck is pretty low, I think 3 iirc, and I walked away with about 18,000.

caps are easy. two-shotting an angry deathclaw with 'lucky' crits gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. get luck, but for the combat benefits

Now my first play through, so I know the Service Rifle is weak later. But at level 7 it will stop most anything. Plus I love the gun itself and I typically keep it in my armor even at higher levels (good for laying down accurate semi-auto AP rounds).

Plus my Strength is 4 so until I can get that perk that lowers gun requirements by 2 it's one of the best guns I can use.

You forgot the 1st Recon beret Crag gives you, that adds another 5% critical chance.

Starting with a luck of 10 is stupid, a real waste of investment, first the difference between 9 and 10 is only a 1% chance to critical, which can be multiplied up to 5% if using a sniper rifle or something. At the very most start with a luck of 7, take intense training at level 2, this makes it 8, get the implant and you have 9 which is +5 for all skills.
For the last point of luck wear the naughty nightwear for its +10 Speech and +1 Luck, in casinos or whenever a high speech check is necessary.

Can you make much money at Blackjack? I sat at a table with 10 luck, I placed the max bet (200). I was dealt a 21 on the first hand, won the second hand with a 20, lost the 3rd hand, won the 4th with a 20 again. You cant hit it big like you can with Slots, right? All that happened to me was that I won an amount equal to 2x what I bet, so if I started at 1000 chips, a loss would drop me to 800 but a win would put me at 1200.

Seems tedious.

Which makes me wonder how people can stand the club with the people that wear masks. No slots. Do you really have to sit there and play blackjack or *actually* get lucky in roulette to get banned? :)

Well actually knowing how to play blackjack helps to have on top of luck, you can double down which doubles your bet but your only dealt one additional card, you can get the opportunity to split which takes your two matching cards and you try and get as close to 21 on two piles. If you double down on that event it could be triple your money. With 10 luck [while wearing nightwear]. I got banned from every casino in Vegas[including the wrangler] in under an hour.
And as your actually playing a game instead of hitting X it can be a lot more fun.

One problem with the slots is the casinos often have minor rewards at each stage as you draw closer to the jackpot such as suite keys. These end up being skipped if you go from 0 to over the ban limit.

I tried for an hour with reloading trying to jackpot as the slot machines at the Tops but I never got more then I could playing blackjack, I kept having to reload because I had already one 9,000 playing blackjack and was hopping to hit the 3 oranges or something that would take me well beyond the ban limit. Even during that time the highest pot I ever won was 2,000 and that was after spending 1,000 in bets.

With 10 luck[while wearing the naughty nightware, I got banned from every Casino in the game with in an about an just by playing blackjack, it may not have the 3 oranges of the slots but its a much faster way to make money IF you know how to play the game.
