Wondering if you can change between companions?

This is a simple question I could test myself, but the answer to the question here would simply save me some time...
I've been running with Veronica as a companion, and if I send her back to 188, can I enlist Boone, hang with him a while then "fire" him and then re-enlist Veronica later and/or vice-versa, and do the same with all other humanoid companions?
I guess another way to put it is, do they feel used and dumped and no longer want anything to do with the player, or are they continually available after you fire another companion?
Can you trade between companions infinitely throughout the game?

Thanks.

You can hire/dismiss companions as you like, however keep in mind that dismissing
some of them after triggering their personal quests will probably glitch it and
you might not be able to complete it after enlisting them again.

yes you can fire and re-hire companions as you wish exactly like Fallout 3 and just about every other RPG ever made.

Yes you can higher/fire at anytime. Yes you can give/take stuff from them. If you have the Lucky 38 pres suite you can send them all there & they just hang out waiting for you to come back. If you have a bad rep Cass will not join you again if you fire her, same as Boone if you have bad NCR rep.

I understand the players rep affecting certain things and the possibility of breaking quests, and I think I'm going to check out a mod that allows more than just one follower...but I wanted to be sure before I sent Veronica packing for now. I never really got heavily into companions in any of Bethesda games. Thanks again for the responses.
