Repairing Hats?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:44 pm

All,

I have a Desperado Cowboy Hat. My whole character concept kinda revolves around it. But I cant repair it since I dont have any pre-war hats (apparently the only thing you can repair it with).

I'm wondering if there are any merchants that repair hats?

Thanks!

Nope, so be sure to take jury rigging.

Pre war hats....collect them as they repair alot of kinds of hats, including Desperado Cowboy Hat.

Like the guy a few posts up said, take jury rigging and it makes keeping your stuff in good condition much easier. One of the better perks in my opinion.

I dont have room in my build for Jury Rigging, either for the Perk or for the points in Repair.

So I guess I'm screwed.

I'll either find a different hat that is easier to repair, or I'll use the FNV GECK to mod a Desperado Hat with 10000 life/health and a value of 10 so that I wont have to worry about it. :)

Thanks

How can someone expect to survive in the wastes without a solid repair score? Odd.

I'm on my 3rd character. My first one pumped Repair to 50 so he could craft weapon repair kits, but my second character never bothered. I never had any issues until I needed to repair a Desperado Hat. :)

I might just wear an easier-to-repair cowboy hat.

Thanks!

Sorry man, you may be able to use pre war hats to repair stuff, there are literally tons of them in Primm in the Bison Steve.

I pretty much max repair with every build unless they are purely passive.

And if all else fails (in a non-modded perspective), do what I do with Pre-War Hat and leave it on, even if the condition is zero. Ya still get bonus the hat give out.

Umm yeah there are people who can repair hats and other equipment, Major Knight at Mojave Outpost should be able to repair your hat, as should any of the repairmen present in the game.

Nope..he can't repair hats (meaning Major I've-got-a-good-sideline-in-overcharging-for-repairs).

The only hat that I've seen repaired is the trader's hat...and that seems to auto repair whenever I cap and loot the thugs in freeside...or, as I've come to think of them, the terminally stupid (let's face it, who would attack a guy with a trail carbine slung over one shoulder, a half-robot attack dog on his heels, and a skinny little chick in a pixee suit with a dirty great steam chuffing power fist on her hand, except for the suicidal?).

I found a second desperado hat...but by that time I had gone off hats and now wear a headband...and if anything gets close enough to hurt the headband, they're close enough to have some facial reconstructive surgery done by my good friend, Mr Hatchet.

Just whip up a mod like I did that gives said item a DT of 1.00 or greater, then it will show up in the repair merchants menu.

For some reason, if it has 0 DT, merchants won't repair it.

Not everyone has access to mods it should be a fix in a patch.

I have the same gripe concerning the Desperado Hat. That and it seems to be the least common cowboy-style hat in the game and you never find a new one. I can't tell you how many times I've been jumped by suicidal idiots outside the North gate to the Strip who were wearing 100% Sheriff's Hats. Go figure.
Why can't you use cowboy hats to fix other cowboy hats? Guess I'll have to get Jury-Rigging on my next playthrough.

Yeah its a pain. Of course my cowgirl focusing on dynamite and demolitions didnt work out because man ... explosives are hard to use. So, I'm gonna re-roll and put all the points I was putting into Explosions over into Repair instead. Then I should be able to get Jury Rigging.

But again, I am tempted to make a mod where Desperado hats have a DT of 1 so they can be repaired. Maybe even give it 10000 health so it takes forever to degrade. Just for that one item. I also love the Merc Adventurer outfit on the female model. I may make a version of that with DT equal to basic Leather Armor just so I can look cute while slaughtering things.

But now I'm going overboard. :)

While we're on hats doesn't anyone else find it frustrating that some hats don't give +1 one perception. One example of this is the Brown Ranger Hat, which IMO looks great but grants no perception bonus. Why? It shields the sun just as well as any baseball cap....
