Repair Costs?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:14 am

To repair my 9mm pistol on low condition was around 200 caps. My magnum was around 300.

While my 10mm pistol on low condition is about 1200! Why?

The 9mm pistol and the .357 magnum are 2 things: "small pistols" and starter weapons. The 10mm is a more advanced weapon that does more DPS, shows up at higher levels, and uses larger ammo. Any and all of these things seem to justify it. Repair cost is basically a function of base value anyway. If you think that's bad just wait until get the high end weapons like carbines. There are enough 10mm weapons showing up on mobs and in general that you should be able to keep one in the "maintain" condition just by using picked up guns.

Makes sense. I just got to Nipton, so im not that far in the game. Most of the people I run across only carry 9mm's. I have the caps to repair my 10mm, but then i'd be broke. Guess I have to settle with the 9mm until I come across some more money, or guns.

To the OP, you haven't seen anything yet. Wait till that nifty hunting shotgun of yours needs 3500 caps for a 25% repair and you only paid 5000 for it in the first place!

Despite the ungodly cost of repairing weapons, there is a great big bunch of sunshine in this picture and it is called the "weapon repair kit". Learn it, use it, love it.............. :jammasterjay:

Make the Weapon Repair Kits. They will save you lots of money. You may have do some stealing for the materials though.

Just get in the habit of picking up junk. Look at your workbench and it should tell you what you need. What will annoy you is you probably ignored about 20 wrenches already because they were useless in FO3. Duct tape you should have because well, duh, everyone knows duct tape is always useful for everything. The other "new" item (not in FO3) just seems useful by its name, and the other items all had at least one crafting use in FO3 so if you did any FO3 crafting it may be worth picking them up.

it cost me about 11000 caps to repair my combat armor mk2 from about 30%. even that was only to like 80% or something. i didnt mind it too much cuz i had about 40000 on me. and a reserve of expensive equipment stashed on bodies at fortification hill... lol

The garage that the Repair Bench in Novac is in has everything you need to make two Repair kits. Maybe three, I forget now. Duct tape seems to be the rarest item. Which would make sense. Post atomic holocaust? Half the world is probably stitched together with that [censored] ;)

Better yet though, invest in Repair and get Jury Rigging. I think I've only used a weapon repair kit once. Plus they don't repair armor.

"Jury rigging" is excellent once you can get it. For the early part of the game, take Veronica with you (she has her own indispensable perk) and craft 100 repair kits. The beauty of the costly repairs is that it works BOTH WAYS. I make repair kits that cost nothing (from found components) and use them to repair guns I take from fallen foes, then sell them for big caps. Hunting Rifle (dropped by foes starting around level 3 and sometimes before) repaired to above 75% netted me something like 4K caps at Lady Gibson, if I remember correctly. Lady Gibson has never ran out of money so far - she's trading harder in her shack than the Gun Runners, Alex at the 188 and that NCR chick at the SW corner of the map *combined* - I go there almost every day and she's got 20+ K to trade with. If it's a bug, it's a great one!

Ka-ching!
