Liquor: major patch needed!

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 9:47 am

I have found that I can no longer abide this game. The primary failing of FO3 was Bethesda's reckless disregard for the ancient arts of distilling; and this has been carried across into FO:NV.

I am of course referring to the disparity in coloring that aggravates my delicate sensibilities whenever I see a bottle of scotch. In reality, scotch whiskey is amber, just like the regular whiskey in the fallout universe. However, it appears to be clear in game, looking suspiciously like vodka...

:P

Seriously, has this vaguely bothered anyone else, or is it just me?

Something that always puzzled me is how they make booze in the game. I mean, you see whiskey, scotch, beer, wine, and vodka everywhere; but what you don't see is wheat, barley, hops, graqes, or potatos being grown in the quantities necessary to make alcohol. There must be something I'm missing.

Well, I can only speak for myself...but what with various and sundry glitches and CTDs, companions who can't find their way to the Lucky 38 when told to go there (Haven't seen Rex in several days now), an overhyped and underdeveloped crafting system accessed through a menu designed by an expert of subtle torture, and so on- I find a particular type of booze being the wrong color to be waaaaaaay down somewhere on page 63 of the "must be fixed" list.

Vodka needs to have better bonuses and have a Survival recipe to mix it with orange juice.

Strong words from someone that misspelled "scotch whiskey." A primer:

Whisky is always scotch. Using both of them technically correct but slightly redundant.
Whiskey refers to every other whiskey on the planet: Irish, American, Canadian, et al. Note that there are many different types of whiskey (bourbon, corn, rye, etc), while whisky is always scotch.

There are, of course, many different types of scotch but they tend to be broken down by region: Highland, Lowland, Islay, Speyside and Campbeltow. All of which are delicious.

THE MORE YOU KNOW.

Honestly, ~just~ you, probably not, but likely the majority haven't worried too much about it. I know I haven't, and honestly just don't care. Despite having been a bartender, i actually don't even drink, so i couldn't care less if they get the colors of the booze-bottles correct. I never even use them for my char. Never needed them

That hasn't bothered me as much as a lot of the "empty" Sunset Sarsaparilla bottles still have their caps on.

What I am curious about is why is vodka worth so much more than other booze? Some Fallout knowledge keeper help a fellow waste wanderer out.

I can understand that but the Pre-War folks must have been extreme alcoholics in order for there to still be a booze surplus after 200 years.

Edit: By the way, I second the introduction of making mixed drinks a survival skill. There's no good reason I can't have a tequila sunrise when I wake up in the morning at my camp.

Also, on that note. Tequila should be introduced into the game.

I never noticed that but maybe it's because I was drinking too much. The in-game character can sure slam those drinks though

Then you could open a bar or work as a bartender in one of the casinos. That'd be a fun minigame I think.

Wrong. Canadian whisky (aka rye) is a "whisky", not a "whiskey". Furthermore, English, German and Indian (molasses whisky, more like a rum) along with many other whiskies are called whisky but have short traditions. Even some American distillers like to use the term "whisky", such as Maker's Mark.

Edit: Your logic would have been right if you had said, "Scotch is always whisky, not whisky is always Scotch."

You guys are worse than that bartender at the German Beer Barn who [censored]ed me out for asking for whiskey. She told me they only had scotch and poured me a glass of Jack Daniel's.

Maybe the scotch is clear because it's radiation infused scotch, that only Science! can produce. I say give us a quest that restores scotch to its amber pre-war condition. And why we're at it, where's the vermouth for making Manhattans?
