I've noticed while playing New Vegas that the some guns don't match their ammo what i mean by this is

the 9mm pistol appears to be based on the Colt M1911 which is chambered in .45

the .357 mag appears to be based on the Colt saa which is chambered in .45

the LMG appears to be based on the M60 machine gun which is chambered in 7.62mm
i could be wrong though.

and if they had modeled the CZ57 Avenger after the http://www.456fis.org/MIS-4/GAU-8_meets_VW_Type_1%5B1%5D.jpg it would have been awesome

also 12.7mm and .50 caliber are the basically the same.

Im not complaining, just observing

Except its real-world counterpart is the Browning Hi-Power, which closely resembles the 1911- only the Hi-Power is chambered for 9mm. Not surprising that they resemble one another, both being Browning designs.

Most of them were discussed (at almost painful length ) in the various "Weapons, Mods, and Ammo Mega-Thread" threads before release. The LMG and whether it's based on the M-60 or SAW, the .357 obviously being a later reproduction SAA since it's not chambered in .45 Long Colt, it and the Hunting Revolver both using swing-out-cylinder loading when both in real-world use the old-style one-at-a-time "cowboy" loading method...

As for the GAU-8 Avenger...yeah, that'd be amusing in-game...considering it might be usable by a crew of 3-5 Super Mutants or Nightkin and not much else. Maybe mounted on the back of a Bighorner.

It's available in both but just about all shooters who opt for the lighter round use .38 Specials and not .357 Magnums in competition.

12.7mm is more like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.50_Action_Express while the .50 is the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.50_BMG so there's a pretty huge difference there.
